Palo Duro Hike: Lighthouse

Let's start off our visit to Palo Duro Canyon with a bang: an 8-9 mile loop to the #1 highlight - the iconic Lighthouse and loop back around to the starting point. Most hiking guidelines recommend plenty of water and sunscreen, so we'll take our time to be extra safe.

October can be hot still by mid-day, so double-check here for the possibility of an earlier start-time t.b.d. on conditions at the time.

It's also possible to cut out and just do the out-and-back; just let me know your intentions.

BTW, this is part of a camping road trip to the area and that is listed as it's own MeetUp. Feel free to join for this hike, and others I have planned. All participants welcome!

Caveats:
I am by no means a professional guide, so please be responsible for your own safety, be prepared to navigate on your own, and be physically able to enjoy the hiking.

All levels of experience welcome, but be sure to inform us beforehand of any accommodations or particular interests and we'll go from there.

I have no ego involved in the route or pace, so just keep me informed if you are faster or slower than the main body of the group -or if you have other needs or suggestions.

Weather:
Average weather is pretty moderate in October, but be prepared! Temps usually range from mid-40s at night to high-70s or low 80s daytime. so watch the weather forecasts!

Recommendations:
I always recommend plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen & insect repellent as a start. Certainly applies here!

Check out hiking guidelines online for other suggestions if you are new to hiking or need a refresher. I would download the map and/or have a paper back up if you are cautious, too!
