Copper Breaks Hike
Details
Let's continue our road trip with another hike! Copper Breaks SP. Big loop around Park for 8.7 miles.
## History:
"The Comanche were the dominant tribe of the plains. They hunted, took shelter and sought medicine from the spirit world in the Pease River area. They believed that spirits dwelled in the Medicine Mounds, four domes about 10 miles east of the park.
In 1860, a young scout for the Texas Rangers named Charles Goodnight found signs of a Comanche camp near the Pease River. The rangers tracked the band, and a gun battle ensued. The rangers captured a woman and her infant.
That woman was Cynthia Ann Parker."
Most hiking guidelines recommend plenty of water and sunscreen, so we'll take our time to be extra safe.
October can be hot still by mid-day, so double-check here for the possibility of an earlier start-time t.b.d. on conditions at the time.
BTW, this is part of a camping road trip to the area and that is listed as it's own MeetUp. Feel free to join for this hike, and others I have planned. All participants welcome!
Caveats:
I am by no means a professional guide, so please be responsible for your own safety, be prepared to navigate on your own, and be physically able to enjoy the hiking.
All levels of experience welcome, but be sure to inform us beforehand of any accommodations or particular interests and we'll go from there.
I have no ego involved in the route or pace, so just keep me informed if you are faster or slower than the main body of the group -or if you have other needs or suggestions.
Weather:
Average weather is pretty moderate in October, but be prepared! Temps usually range from mid-40s at night to high-70s or low 80s daytime. so watch the weather forecasts!
Semper preperavit!
Recommendations:
I always recommend plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen & insect repellent as a start. Certainly applies here!
Check out hiking guidelines online for other suggestions if you are new to hiking or need a refresher. I would download the map and/or have a paper back up if you are cautious, too!
Courtesies/Expectations:
Edit your RSVP!
I would rather have more people show up than have delays waiting for those who don't. Please don't sign up if you are tentative; just show up! If you do need to cancel, please edit your RSVP asap!
Communicate! Things happen! If you experience delays, comment or dm and keep us informed. This holds for during events, too. We will adjust or accommodate whenever possible.
