Saeid Kordmafi, one of Iran’s most talented musicians on santour is joined by Fariborz Kiannejad on tombak to create a sense of time travel through the history of music of a vast civilization. The programme showcases the intricate characteristics of classical Iranian music, preserved during time by aural traditions. It will also display the interdependencies of the music of an entire region, crossing the borders and boundaries of Iran, the Arab world, Turkey, and Central Asia. Improvisation is one of the key features of this music. Keeping in time with the present while remaining rooted in the past is a key to its survival in the modern world.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The concert starts at 7pm and finishes around 8:30pm. Seats are first come first served and very occasionally it can be full by 7pm. I have no mobile reception in the venue so am unable to respond to messages. The plan after the event is to meet just outside the lecture theatre on the left just past the lifts and go for some refreshments at the nearby Institute bar.
