Re: [wp-columbus] Important Group Updates

Thanks for the update. I am very new to Wordpress, just starting a blog for the first time. So I have lots of questions and a Q&A would be great, if not too boring for the more experienced

Hello there. I wanted to make sure everyone knows about some important updates for the group.

First, our permanent meeting location has changed. Thanks to one of the members, we can now meet at the Improving facilities near Easton. I have not been over there yet, but it looks super nice. If you're unfamiliar, I suggest you make a trial run at some point to make sure you know where you are going and can also anticipate the traffic on a Thursday after rush hour traffic.

Also, a WordCamp update:

It turns out we are way behind for planning because I didn't know that I had to apply to be a planner. I did submit my application, which was just today kind of approved. I have to jump through some hoops and do some orientation, so there is still some work for me to do.

But once I do get approved, we probably won't be in a position to do a full-blown WordCamp this year, unless several others step up to help plan. We could shoot for planning one in January though, which throws our usual Camp off by about 6 months.

So we will have some decisions to make as a group, once I find out about budget, etc.

We could do some smaller learning sessions. (Bigger than a Monthly Meetup, smaller than a full-blown WordCamp) And we could possibly split our sessions into one for beginners (to be put on by the advanced and intermediate people) and one for advanced users and try to get advanced speakers to come.

We could also decide to do a competition where we work on site resdesigns as groups, do some non-profit sites as a group or even do a kids camp or a non-profit boot camp. There are a variety of projects we can decide to take on if we want to do something smaller than the normal WordCamp. If you have ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them my way. We can discuss this again at the June meeting and see where we are.

And speaking of the next meeting ... Does anyone have a topic they would either like to speak about or would like for us to address? We can do panel discussions or just do Q&A as well, but I'd like to keep the information flowing since we had such a great speaker last time.

If no one has a topic, I'll figure something out. But please send suggestions. Thanks all. I look forward to seeing you at the June meeting!
