Orlando Word Lab
Details
This is a writing workshop that meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Winter Park Library. We focus on learning a new technique or method each month. A guest speaker will share a sample of their work and then give a writing prompt for everyone to follow.
We'll all write for 30 minutes, and then share our work with others, and receive helpful suggestions about what to improve. Bring your laptops, tablets, a notebook and pen, and a willingness to learn.
This week, Kimberly DiPersia and Jeffrey Rembert will guide us through “First Write the Story.”
Like any other form of writing – novel, short story, poem, journal, prison confession – the screenplay simply requires putting pen to paper. However, because the approach can be daunting as you’re writing for the screen rather than the page, Kimberly and Jeffrey will discuss the steps, tools, and insight into writing a screenplay for a short or feature film. They’ll discuss industry-standard beats that will lead the way for smooth writing, as well as storytelling in general, realistic dialogue, creating strong characters, and organizing your story.
Kimberly DiPersia is a multi-hyphenate filmmaker and Artistic Director for All the Line Studio & Incubator, an independent film company, changing the paradigms of the industry through authentic, original films and stage productions from unique, individual voices. A graduate of NYU Tisch, she’s worked both Off-Broadway and in regional theatre and has written and produced web series, commercials, music videos, and short films. Jeffrey Rembert is Curator for All the Line Studio. As a screenwriter, director, and producer, he reviews scripts, advises writers, and assists in the management of the independent film company. A former journalist, Jeff has degrees from Texas Tech and the University of Texas. He played Patrick Henry in second grade and graduated early from Catholic school after two nuns abruptly resigned.
