This is a writing workshop that meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Winter Park Library. We focus on learning a new technique or method each month. A guest speaker will share a sample of their work and then give a writing prompt for everyone to follow.

We'll all write for 30 minutes, and then share our work with others, and receive helpful suggestions about what to improve. Bring your laptops, tablets, a notebook and pen, and a willingness to learn.

This month, Ayal Wolf will teach us about playwriting. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Writing for theater - How it differs from other writing forms
  • Setting and Character Interactions - Story drivers for Stage
  • Use of Dialogue
  • Story Arc/Flow - placement of Acts and Scene Structure/Discussion of different structures (1-Act vs 2-Act vs 3-Act)
  • Scene Breakdown, Tension vs Conflict - Is it a Seduction, Negotiation, or a Fight?
  • Scene Pacing
  • Show the Story, but don't be the director
  • Considerations when writing for the stage
  • Organizations and Resources to help you on your playwriting journey.
  • Q&A (time permitting)
