We are a nonprofit literary forum that creates performance opportunities for writers through curated live and digital performances celebrating the spoken word. Formerly known as Read650, Writers Read™ is a high-quality platform for true personal stories—two pages and 650 words long, read aloud by the writer before an audience.
Writers Read™ places a strong emphasis on the craft of writing—word choices, sentence structures, the arc of the narrative. Our submission-based events are developed around broad themes that invite a wide range of expression. An editorial committee curates and sequences the content of each show and, where necessary, our editors collaborate with writers to further refine their work. If you love language and craft and enjoy a good story, you’ve come to the right place.

These are the experiences that act as a pressure cooker—simmering with conflict one moment and sparking sudden, profound personal growth the next. Join Writers Read for an afternoon of live storytelling as we explore what happens when your personal space is no longer your own.
From the early blueprints of sibling rivalry to the absolute "declarations of war" over a stolen yogurt in a communal fridge, our curated cast of writers will take the stage to share poignant, reflective, and often hilarious true stories. These are the intimate experiences that resist being "patched or painted over," remaining with us long after we’ve moved out and moved on. • This featured event is part of SUNY New Paltz Alumni Reunion 2026.
