Speaker:

Tackling Technical Writing by Alaina Kafkes (@alainakafkes (https://twitter.com/alainakafkes))

Empathetic, accessible, and thorough technical tutorials & blog posts break down tech’s barrier to entry and foster inclusion. Publishing quality technical writing can also open doors to individual opportunities, like jobs and conference talks. Tech needs people who write well – an oft underdeveloped skill. In this talk, I’ll give actionable pointers to help a novice writer improve their technical writing chops.

Alaina Kafkes is a software engineer at Medium, where she works predominantly on iOS development and petting other people’s dogs. She recently graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in computer science and many humanities classes under her belt. Though she’d like to think that her claim to fame is her inability to pronounce the word “corgi,” she’s best known for her technical writing for freeCodeCamp, Twilio, Clarifai, and Chronicles of a Junior Dev, as well as for co-founding BuildHer, Chicago’s first-ever student-run women’s hackathon. Current fascinations include evangelizing shakshuka and reading fiction.
