Write/Speak/Code: Career Goals and Performance Panel
Details
Note: This meetup is only for woman and non-binary coders.
Chances are that we’ve all recently come off a performance review or are about to start having conversations for one that’s upcoming and performance reviews are stressful. Since we’re at the tail end of spring which represents change and growth, why not learn and have some practice around the conversations we dread the most? This panel is about goals, progress, feedback, and your relationship with your manager.
You will have an option to ask questions and we will have an interactive workshop on conversations with your manager/lead.
Our Panelists include:
Raquel Vélez, Engineering Manager @ Slack
Raquel has spoken at nearly 60 events around the world and has written a bunch of blog posts at raquelvelez.com. She currently works at Slack as the engineering manager of the Platform App Foundations team, though before that she was employee #1 at npm, Inc., where she transitioned from a full-stack engineer to engineering manager, all while helping the company grow to almost 30 people!
Joy Scharmen, Director, Devops @ Optimizely
Joy loves sustainable solutions to managing complex systems, people included. She’s spoken about incident retrospectives and learning from failure, and hopes to encourage everyone to embrace the lessons they learn from their mistakes.
Megan Marquardt, Director of Engineering @ Thinkful
Megan manages a distributed team of engineers who develop the learning platform for part-time online programs in learning web development and design. She recently played a key role in the sale of the company, Bloc, as well as the product and tech diligence during the acquisition by Thinkful. She has been managing the engineering team for almost two years, previously developing professionally at Bloc and Lucasfilm for a combined seven years.
Eugenia Dellapenna, Engineering Manager @ Medium
Eugenia is an engineering manager at Medium and currently leads the iOS and Android team, which she helped double in size over the past year. She's passionate about software engineering and product development processes, and helping teams find the right process for them while minimizing the overhead. Ultimately, she cares about leading with empathy and helping teams and individuals be successful.
