Watershed Watch Salmon Society Volunteers

We’re looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help out at our table during the Fingerling Festival on Saturday, May 3, 2025!

📍 Location: Port Moody Recreation Centre (exact booth location TBC)

🕘 Time: Meet for set-up at 9:00 AM (festival runs from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM). Help pack up from 3:00 PM - 3:30 PM.

💬 What you'll be doing:
– Helping set up and pack down our display
– Greeting festival-goers and chatting about salmon and watersheds
– Handing out info and helping guests with our display.
– Encouraging folks to get involved in protecting wild salmon!

– A free hot dog lunch and refreshments 🌭

– A chance to talk about salmon all day 🐟

✅ Important Info:
– Check-in at the Exhibitor/Volunteer Tent when you arrive
– This is a green event — please bring your own mug and plate, and take out what you bring in.
- Parking is at the Port Moody Recreation Complex.

Join us in caring for the Coquitlam River and the wild salmon that depend on it.

Each week, Watershed Watch staff will meet with volunteers at the north end of Gabriola Drive for a one-hour trail walk where we remove graffiti, pick up litter, and report any concerns, like fallen trees or signs of pollution, to the City.

No experience needed and all supplies are provided. This is a hands-on way to be a good steward for the river, the watershed, and the salmon that call it home.

Running late? We will head down the trail a few minutes after 9 am. Give Meghan a call at 604 762 5608 to meet up if you are running late. We'll be wearing a hi-vis vest and should be easy to spot!

Love salmon? Love the water? Join us on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as a volunteer at our Paddle the Slough Flotilla in Chilliwack! This feel-good, fish-friendly event kicks off our 8th Annual Paddle the Slough Challenge and brings together paddlers of all levels to explore the beautiful Hope Slough.

📍 Location: 1st Fairfield Scout Hall – 47130 Hope River Rd, Chilliwack, BC

🕘 Time: Arrive by 9:00 AM to help set up, the event runs from 10:00 AM until about 2:00 PM. Packing up will take about 30 minutes. (Roughly 2:30 PM)

💬 What you'll be doing:
– Helping with set-up and participant check-in
– Greeting paddlers and directing folks to parking or launch areas
– Ensuring participants have proper safety gear before launching.
– Support Watershed Watch staff at our engagement table.
- Join the paddle 🛶 (We'll hold spaces in our canoes or let us know if you would prefer to bring your own canoe/kayak/SUP).
– Enjoying the energy of a community coming together for salmon and clean water!

– A delicious BBQ lunch (veg options available!)
– Spending the day outdoors and on the water 💧
– Volunteer hours (if needed)
– A chance to be part of a cherished local event and meet awesome people!

– Reusable water bottle + plate (we’re aiming for zero waste!)

🚗 Parking
– Park at the Scouts Hall to check in at 9 am. We might ask to shuffle vehicles down the street before guests start to arrive.
