What we’re about
‘An Hour of Peace’ is a free program that has the sole purpose of bringing meditation skills and benefits into everyone's lives. It shares a wide range of meditation exercises and helps people to navigate their way through the challenges of developing a successful personal practice, offering an overview ranging from introductory, mind calming techniques through to more advanced methods aimed at deepening the meditation experience. Guest speakers also respond to and welcome an interest in the broader aspects of the spiritual life - reincarnation; the soul's purpose; the principle branches of yoga and their practices; finding your spiritual path; mantras and sacred chants; etc.
In addition to evening and weekend structured courses and occasional retreats, the program also provides a one hour free lunchtime introduction to meditation in citywide workplace venues. One of our instructors gives an overview of the benefits of meditation/stress management practices and offers several guided techniques for employees and staff to experience meditation firsthand. We encourage you to have ten or more people to attend, and we leave some guideline materials to foster your staff’s ongoing practice. A number of companies have created dedicated meditation rooms and encourage regular staff practice sessions after noticing the positive benefits.
Meetup's Hour of Peace is being offered by Auckland's Sri Chinmoy Centre, whose members and long-time practitioners love to freely sharing their own insights and knowledge of meditation with others. More at: www.meditationauckland.co.nz

November Meditation Retreat Week
Nov 14-16, at the Aio Wira Retreat Centre, Waitakere Ranges.
You’re invited to attend our very popular upcoming retreat weekend at the beautiful Aio Wira Retreat Centre in the Waitakere Ranges, our eighth annual gathering there. It’s one of Auckland’s iconic healthy lifestyle spaces surrounded by native forest and located only 10 minutes from Bethells Beach and the coastline trails. The two night, Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon stay will cover a wide range of lifestyle positives: meditation skills; music and mantras to still the mind; vegan and vegetarian food; fitness guidelines from our health pros; trail walks and hikes and time out on the nearby beaches.
The course is freely organised by members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre which does not charge for offering and hosting this retreat, however the venue needs to charge for and cover accommodation costs and retreat fees, both of which are relatively inexpensive. Accommodation is in very comfortable bunk rooms (4 people) and smaller units for one, two or three persons. We can accommodate 24 people. We will confirm accommodation and food costs once we have final numbers, which are all-inclusive of meals, accommodation, spa, sauna.
It's a requirement that participants in this retreat have first attended any of our citywide free introductory meditation courses, or attended one evening of any course, as the weekend assumes some familiarity with our various meditation guidelines. Upcoming introductory meditation courses can be seen online: www.meditationauckland.co.nz
