Hike Ravines then Kayak/SUP Lock 60 & Schuylkill River; Food after
Details
FRIDAY WEATHER UPDATE: Still planning to paddle, but the earlier hiking part of event is cancelled since I do not want to damage the trails if they are wet and muddy. As of now, the rain looks to be clearing out in the early afternoon, so we will still plan on doing the paddle at 3:30PM (planning to be paddling just before 4pm) and we will plan to get food at Fitzwater Station afterwards. If anything changes with the weather forecast and the rain will linger longer, we will still head out in Phoenixville for a bar crawl.
CANCELLED Part 1 - Hike the Ravines: Arrive at 12:30PM be walking before 12:45PM... We will meet at Fitzwater Station at and we will hike the canal path to the Neal Thorpe trails known as the "ravines". This is a 6.4 mile loop with 500ft elevation gain as well as some fast paced walking along the canal trail. You should wear hiking shoes for the terrain in the ravines area.
Bring a snack to eat before paddle boarding (and byob for the river).
Part 2 - Paddle Lock 60 Loop... Arrive at 3:30PM to be on water and paddling at 4:00PM
Easy paddle loop! We'll drop in at Fitzwater, paddle up the canal to Lock 60, carry our vessels over to the river and float back down stream. one more carry back to the canal to finish the loop. Bring water, a small cooler with cold beverages, and sunscreen! water guns encouraged! No launch permit needed as this is not a state controlled launch. Everyone must have a life jacket for each person on their boat(don't need to wear it) as well as a whistle to comply with state regs.
Part 3 - Dinner and drinks at Fitzwater Station on the water at 6pm
kayak/canoe rentals are available at Fitzwater Station but you must make your own reservations/payments.
