Xinyi-Dao - Qigong and Martial Methods
Using movements and forms from Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, and Baguazhang, we explore different ways of moving with power and sensitivity. We start each class with various Qigong methods (Hunyuan Yiqi, zhan zhuang, squatting monkey, etc) and progress into more complex martial forms (such as Shanghai Wu style Fast Form, Xingyi 5 Elements, Jiaoji Siba, Bagua palm changes, etc). Partner work comes in the form of Taiji Push Hands (Shanghai Wu style 13 methods), Xingyiquan two person forms (Wuhuapao, Wuxingpao, Aishenpao, etc), movement testing, and application drills. Each class ends with spear sparring (students are expected to purchase their own protective gear if they wish to participate in the sparring).
Class is taught by Alvin Chew, a 1st generation disciple of Xinyi-Dao Grandmaster Li Tailiang (李泰良), and senior student of Shanghai Wu Style Taiji Master Hong Zongnan (洪宗南).
Cost: $10 per class, but first lesson is free.
