Information

• This is a swap. Please bring at least 1-2 published physical books that you are ready to permanently rehome.
• If the event is outside, bring something to sit on in case the ground is wet.
• The theme is Spooky 👻! Hauntings, monsters, anything to get in the Halloween spirit 🎃 If you don't have any books that fit, tenuous connections are okay - any mysterious elements, the horrors of everyday life etc. - be creative :)
• Please respect the RSVP list out of fairness to those on the waitlist. Repeated no-shows will result in removal from the going list for future swaps.
• The organizers will (try to) arrive early and will have stacks of books.
• If multiple people are interested in a book, priority will be given to regulars.
• If someone forgets to bring a book, they get lowest priority for receiving a new book.
• If the event is indoors, masks are not required but are welcomed. The organizers will be wearing masks.

What to expect

SETTING
Confederation Park, rain location is NAC lobby.

CHARACTERS
The organizers will be there a bit early - look for the people with books trying to make a circle. Check the comments or message if you get lost.
Bring a bag that can hold your new books!

PLOT
We’ll (try to) make a circle and go around with everyone giving a quick summary of their book to give away. Usually title, genre, reading a few lines from the back summary, if you liked it, whatever you want as long as it is brief and does not give away that twist ending! Please keep to 1-2 minutes per book if you can.
Once all books have been described, each person will hold up their book(s), one at a time, for a show of interest.
If only one person raises their hand, the book goes to them.
If more than one person raises their hand, the book is set aside for the next round.
For the second round, some people will now have some books already and so we give priority for contested books to people with no/less books. Also there have been lots of instances in the past where someone takes the book first but promises to bring back to a future book swap or otherwise pass along the book to the next person in a sort of book club chain. For this reason, priority will be given to returning book swappers who have participated in at least one previous swap.

COVID precautions:
This event will be outdoors and we'll try to set up in a space away from others with enough room to spread out. Masks are not required but are welcome, and the organizers will bring some extras for anyone who would like one!

Looking for a night where you can laugh, mingle, and maybe meet someone special? Join us Friday, October 16 for a fun night designed specifically for single people who want to get out, meet new people and enjoy some great live comedy.

The evening starts with a 6:30 PM Mix & Mingle, giving you a chance to grab a drink, meet other singles and break the ice before the comedy gets underway at 8:00 PM. Then sit back and enjoy a lineup of talented comedians bringing plenty of laughs to the stage at one of Ottawa's iconic comedy venues.

Your featured performers are:

Sai Kit Lo: Your headliner for the evening, Sai was a Canada's Got Talent finalist and is known for his energetic, offbeat style and unique perspective. He has performed at major Canadian comedy festivals and clubs, and his comedy videos have built a substantial online following.

Sean-Thomas Martin: An Ottawa-based comedian who has been a regular part of the city's stand-up scene. Sean-Thomas has appeared on Yuk Yuk's stages and in local comedy showcases and competitions.

Karen Joy: A longtime fixture of Ottawa's comedy community, Karen Joy brings a distinctive perspective and sharp take on everyday life. She has performed throughout Ottawa and has also produced comedy shows, including the former Monday Night Laughs series.

Aaron Hill: An Ottawa comedian who has been performing on the local scene for years, Aaron has appeared at Yuk Yuk's, Absolute Comedy and numerous local showcases and competitions.

Ken Pham: Bringing a little something different to the night, Ken Pham is a magician and entertainer known for flashy magic, mentalism and interactive performances. He has performed at theatres and major venues across Canada.

Come solo, come with a friend, or come ready to meet someone new. Great comedy, new connections and a room full of singles — what could possibly go wrong?
