Book Swap, Memoir & Biography edition

Information

*This is a swap. Please bring at least 1-2 published physical books that you are ready to permanently rehome.

• This event has the theme: Memoir & Biography. Books about people, personal essay collections, etc. are also welcome. Please bring books in the theme, or have a case prepared for how your book could fit the theme.
  *Please respect the RSVP list out of fairness to those on the waitlist. Repeated no-shows will result in removal from the going list for future swaps.
• The organizers will (try to) arrive early and will have stacks of books.
  *If multiple people are interested in a book, priority will be given to regulars.
• If someone forgets to bring a book, they get lowest priority for receiving a new book.
  *If the event is indoors, masks are not required but are welcomed. The organizers will be wearing masks.

What to expect

SETTING
We will meet at the NAC couches at 2pm. From the Elgin Street entrance, go straight towards the other side of the lobby and veer slightly left and you will see couches!

CHARACTERS
The organizers will be there a bit early - look for the people with books trying to make a circle on the couches. Check the comments or message if you get lost.
Bring a bag that can hold your new books!

PLOT
We’ll (try to) make a circle and go around with everyone giving a quick summary of their book to give away. Usually title, genre, reading a few lines from the back summary, if you liked it, whatever you want as long as it is brief and does not give away that twist ending! Please keep to 1-2 minutes per book if you can.
Once all books have been described, each person will hold up their book(s), one at a time, for a show of interest.
If only one person raises their hand, the book goes to them.
If more than one person raises their hand, the book is set aside for the next round.
For the second round, some people will now have some books already and so we give priority for contested books to people with no/less books. Also there have been lots of instances in the past where someone takes the book first but promises to bring back to a future book swap or otherwise pass along the book to the next person in a sort of book club chain. For this reason, priority will be given to returning book swappers who have participated in at least one previous swap.

COVID precautions:
This event will be indoors and we'll try to set up in a space away from others with enough room to spread out. Masks are not required but are welcome, and the organizers will bring some extras for anyone who would like one!
