About us
Welcome to "Yet Another Hiking Group in Luxembourg"!
Please read all of the below carefully before you apply to become a group member.
What is YAHGIL about?
This group is about hiking in Luxembourg :)
- Most times REALLY in Luxembourg, but sometimes in the surrounding countries, like Belgium, France, or Germany.
- Most times it is ONLY about hiking, but sometimes it may include picnics, swimming, or barbecue.
- Most times it will not rain, we promise! And if it does, we apologize in advance, but we will go for the hike anyway :)
- Most times it will be brisk walks between 15 and 20km, but sometimes it can be just a light promenade. In winter it might be sometimes too cold for more than 10km.
Who can apply?
Everyone passionate about hiking is welcome.
If you are not trained at all, you might consider not joining the hard ones first, but once in a while there will be hikes suitable for beginners, just read the description for each event carefully.
We are dog-friendly, and if your dog is friendly with people and other dogs, feel free to bring it along!
We prefer a "clearly recognizable profile photo" to keep fakes and spammers out.
If there is any reason for not having such a photo, please reach out; that's not a problem.
And please make sure that we can reply; check your mailbox settings for the "privacy settings", and allow the group organizers.
Who are we?
The group owner has been hiking in Luxembourg and the greater region since early 2019. Over time, several event organizers have joined or were promoted.
We're able to organize hikes almost every weekend, unless all of us are out of town at the same time.
If you're interested in organizing hikes as well, let us know, and you may become an organizer in the group
What are we looking for?
We look for beautiful routes, new ones to explore, and the best ones to be repeated occasionally.
And we're looking for nice people to join us, good discussions during the hikes, but also enjoying the silence and the sound of nature.
If you happen to know a beautiful route or a famous destination that we have missed, we're always open for suggestions, but be aware that we cannot consider every idea and we cannot promise if and when we go somewhere.
What do we expect from you?
- Be on time if possible, and if you're late, let us know immediately. There is some tolerance, and we wait for you if we know you're coming, but don't let it become a habit
- Unsubscribe as soon as you know you can't make it, even if it is 5 minutes before or after the official start of the event, it makes checking the participant list much easier and your spot can be taken by someone from the waiting-list.
- Use public transport if we provide information about it, or the carpool to be eco-friendly and reduce the amount of cars that are used
Member contribution
The basic membership in MeetUp is free for users like you, unless you need some of the features that come with the paid subscription. If you mainly attend events and don't use MeetUp as your primary communication platform, you would not need the subscription.
However, the group owner has to pay for the group subscription, which has constantly increased over the years.
I have set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe with the fictitious goal of "1 EUR per group member", and you can contribute whatever you feel comfortable with.
Be it 1 EUR per year, 1 EUR per hike, or 1 EUR per km (just kidding).
Let me know if the link doesn't work or if you need to use a different way, like Payconiq or cash.
It's completely voluntary, but it helps a lot to cover the MeetUp subscription and all the small things that add up during the year.
Final remarks
There are comprehensive charters existing in other groups, with dozens of rules, but we try to get around it without that, although most of the listed points absolutely make sense and they are valid here as well, but without the need to state it. Our group, our rules.
The necessary legal minimum to claim:
"All Events are at your own risk, there is no liability by the hosts for any damage. Also, each participant is responsible for respecting the sanitary measures that might be in place at the particular moment, like distance and mask-wearing."
If you made it here, congratulations!
Welcome to YAGHIL. We're looking forward to hiking with you!
Cheers,
Jens.

Rolling into Saarburg as golden light hits the river, cold drinks waiting, and the quiet pride of conquering one of the region's best hikes.
Come prepared—this is not a casual stroll. Bring at least 2–3L water, sturdy boots, and grit.

10:10 AM – 5:15 PMA gentler day: we glide up the Warsberg chairlift, hike 15–20 km through forest and meadow with sweeping views into the great German forests, then settle on the terrace of the famous Pannenkoekenhuis for plate-sized Dutch pancakes. Family-friendly option available—a short 3 km loop to the bird park for those who prefer a lighter day.
