Solar Eclipse and Perseides
Details
On Wednesday 12th of August we have the rare opportunity to observe a solar eclipse over Luxembourg. The solar eclipse is starting at 7.20pm, with the peak at around 8.15pm, assuming clear skies. The Perseids will be visible later that evening once it is completely dark.
There is a free public event in Ettelbrück dedicated to the solar eclipse 2026.
For further details see Solar Eclipse Day 2026 - Visit Luxembourg
and https://nightwise.lu/solar-eclipse-2026/
We will take the train at 17:44h from Luxembourg Gare to Ettelbrück. The train stops in Pfaffenthal (where I will probably hop in), Dommeldange (where Jens will join us), Walferdange, Mersch and it will arrive at 18:13h at Ettelbrück. We can gather in front of the gare there or meet directly at the event location.
From there it is a 12 minutes walk to the event location:
6, rue du Deich, L-9012 ETTELBRUCK
I am not sure whether there will be opportunities to sit, so grab an old towel or something else just in case...
The last train back from Ettelbrück is at 23:28h, and it arrives at 00:08h in Luxembourg.
If you want to see the Perseides after the solar eclipse, you will have to wait until it is completely dark, so the last train might be a bit too early. In that case, you might want to consider coming by car.
