Join retired history teacher and longtime Marietta resident Jeffrey Hudson on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 am, for a 2-mile guided history hike through the storied streets of Marietta, PA.
Over the course of 90 minutes to two hours, Hudson will bring the town’s past to life with fascinating stories, including the true origins of Marietta’s name, its rise as both a river and railroad hub, and tales of Civil War connections and even presidential visits. Along the way, you’ll hear about the oldest continuously operating tavern in Lancaster County, Underground Railroad activity, and curious local characters—including surprising links to early vaccine development in the U.S.

Special highlight: participants will enjoy a rare opportunity to step inside Marietta’s 1848 Old Town Hall and explore its first-floor museum, courtesy of the Marietta Restoration Association.

The hike begins at the Marietta Borough Municipal Office, 111 East Market Street. Expect sidewalks, several crosswalks, and some of Marietta’s hilly side streets and alleys. Free parking is available on East Market Street and Front Street.
