About us
Welcome!
ATTENTION AUTHORS - scam warning. Before I introduce my group, please be aware there is a scam taking place targeting authors. If you receive an email from someone using my name and the name of this book group offering to feature you at one of our events, it is not me. I will never reach out to authors to feature them and I would certainly never charge if I was to do this. If you are contacted by someone pretending to be me, please report the email address. The only money I ask for is any voluntary donations from members to help me with the Meetup fees.
Young London Book Group is for readers between 20 and 40(ish) who are looking to socialise and talk about literature with like-minded people. We meet usually on the fourth Tuesday of every month (this does change, so please keep on eye on dates) at a pub near London Bridge starting at 6.30pm. We have a casual discussion of the month's book for an hour or so, then encourage people to stick around for a drink or two afterwards. At each session, we choose our next book from a shortlist. These will tend to be short novels/novellas or graphic novels. If you have any recommendations for future book groups, send me a message to let me know. Happy reading! Anna
I would be grateful if you can contribute a pound or two whenever you attend to help me cover Meetup's running costs so that I can keep the group running. Thank you!

The Left Hand of Darkness - Ursula K. Le Guin
The Leather Exchange, 15 Leathermarket Street Borough SE1 3HN, London, GBA quick note to say that if you would like to help me with the running costs of the book group, you can give a small contribution via Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/annabookgroup
Thank you to everyone who helped me with the Meetup fees in 2025!
We will meet from 6:30 onwards at the pub and go to the room upstairs between 6:30 and 7:00. Please check with the bar staff before going up that the room is ready and please don't go up before our start time. We will start the discussion at around 7:00pm and talk about the book for an hour or so before having a break. Then we can vote on next month's book.
If you have any suggestions for short (or shortish) books for the next shortlist, please message me ahead of time.
Thanks!

A groundbreaking work of science fiction, The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants spend most of their time without a gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. Embracing the aspects of psychology, society, and human emotion on an alien world, The Left Hand of Darkness stands as a landmark achievement in the annals of intellectual science fiction
