What we’re about

INTENTION
To build spiritual community through contemplative exploration. There are active organizations for young Catholics, for queer Catholics, and for Catholic women – but no circle specifically for those of us who are all three. So let’s make the space, because we bring unique perspectives!

Since there are already progressive Catholic organizations that focus on liturgy and advocacy, this affirming community space will instead focus on the diverse, daily spiritual practices that grow our relationships with God. Gatherings may include such activities as:

Reading and discussing sacred texts
Taizé chant or similar circle singing
Labyrinth-walking
Centering prayer
Retreats
Volunteering
Going to mass together
Attending feminist theological gatherings

…and other Catholic spiritual practices that inspire us!

In the true spirit of a circle, all members will have opportunities to lead gatherings. The group is based in the greater Boston area. To be added to the gathering notification email list, contact YQCWofBoston@gmail.com or meetup message the organizer. You can also be in touch with YQCW across the globe by joining our Young Queer Catholic Women facebook group.

WHO WE ARE
As the title indicates, this group is intended for queer Catholic women, ages 21-40. You are also welcome if:
--you are a young adult Catholic who is trans/NB/GNC/etc.
--you are a young adult queer woman/gender minority of another denomination/faith who is interested in learning more about progressive Catholicism and engaging in interfaith dialogue

For the privacy of all members, the member profiles and meeting locations will only be visible to group members. The organizer will review each profile before a person is added to the group. Please include a recent photo of yourself with your profile.

HOLDING THE SPACE
Many women and queer Catholics understandably have difficult histories with their faith identity. However, the purpose of this group is not to focus on past pain, but rather to bear witness to each other’s spiritual journeys moving forward. We can create a new, positive, inclusive model of Catholicism. Please bring kind words, an open heart, and your best, whole self!
