Buddhist Xmas (Vesak) celebration, North Hollywood Buddhist Temple (FREE)
Details
Vesak is considered "Buddhist Christmas" because it celebrates the day the Buddha was born, became enlightened, and passed into final nirvana, events that all occurred on the full moon day in May (the ancient month of Vesakha).
Theravada Buddhist countries like Sri Lanka off the tip of India celebrate these three amazing events on a single day, sometimes carrying on the holiday season for a week or more.
It is an all-day Full Moon Observance (Uposatha) for intensive practice of Eight Precepts, Buddhist meditation, chanting, blessings, devotions, and lots of FREE island cuisine.
Wisdom Quarterly's Dharma editor, who has been asked to teach and lead a meditation, invites ANY QUESTION on life, the universe, and everything, all answered in Buddhist perspective. Suggestion: Wear white.
