Did you know that the same Japanese green tea can taste completely different depending on how you brew them?
## About the event
🍁 “Sometimes the Japanese tea I make at home turns out a little too bitter or astringent.”
🍁 "I enjoy Japanese tea, but I’m not sure how the different types of tea vary.”
🍁 “Can water temperature and the type of water really make such a difference?”
🍁 “I would love to be able to make a truly delicious cup of tea at home.”
If any of these sound familiar, this workshop is for YOU.
The taste of Japanese tea can change remarkably depending not only on the type of tea leaves, but also on water temperature, brewing time, the type of water, and the brewing method. Its aroma, sweetness, umami, and astringency can all be brought forward in different ways.
This workshop combines the practical enjoyment of tea brewing with a short moment of Zen-inspired breathing meditation.
Before we begin tasting, we will take time to settle the mind and body through simple breathing practice—creating a calm, attentive state in which to experience tea more fully.
We will then demonstrate how to brew Japanese tea beautifully and invite you to taste the differences for yourself through guided comparisons. You will discover how small changes in temperature, timing, water, and technique can transform the character of a tea.
During the workshop, we will introduce two Japanese teas and explore each one through two different brewing methods. During the second tea tasting, we will also introduce a small Japanese sweet to accompany the tea. Along the way, you will be encouraged to notice the aromas, flavours, textures, and subtle changes in each cup.
By the end of the workshop, you may have a clearer sense of the flavours you personally enjoy—and feel more confident creating your own perfect cup of Japanese tea at home.
