Incarceration, Accountability, and Atonement

The rectification of injustice is unending, and the apparatus we use in this pursuit also seems determined to keep it that way. Our ability to parse what is incompatible to our prosperity seems tainted by hidden agendas, yet fueled by genuine fears. Is deterrence a worthy societal project? Can rehabilitation coincide with punishment? Are all people redeemable, or is there no rest for the wicked?
