Topic of the month

Let's try something. We all need inspiration from time to time, so here is yours. For our meetup in July, where/when ever that may be, let's all write about the same thing. Not the same way though. Some may write poetry, maybe a short story, something autobiographical, or even a comedy bit. Maybe a documentary about a real thing. Just write.

For July, the topic will be our favorite Arizona topic in the summer. HEAT!!!!! What does heat inspire in you? A memory of a summer outing when young? Your honeymoon? The feeling that the first 110 degree day (or the 30 that follow) brings to you?? Images of starvation in a far off land?? Two eggs frying on pavement??

The goal here is two fold. One is to provide a means for each of us to stretch ourselves. If you write novels, try a poem or short story. Try something you haven't done before but would like to and ask for some feedback. The second is to bring some commonality to the group other than our desire to write. Shared experiences help to bring a sense of community, and I think that is why we are all here. To build a community of writers and build on the support and socialization such a community brings.

We can post them in the files section or on the message board, depending on length. At the July meetup, we can discuss them, maybe read a few, and then pick 5 or 10 (if we get that many) to vote on and pick the best piece that really brings the most emotion or visualization for the word heat. Then we will pick the next topic. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Sound like fun?? I think so. But then again, I've been told that I am the funniest person I know. So if you see me off in the corner giggling to myself, don't worry too much.

For everyone's convenience, this email is also posted to the message board. Feel free to provide comments and stories there. If anyone is having difficulty figuring out how to use the message boards, send me an email and I'll try to help.
