About us
JRCC was formed in 1945 and is one of the oldest, continuing photography clubs in Virginia. Our mission is to offer programs and activities of interest to the beginning photographer as well as the professional. We have a number of professionals in our membership who contribute exceptional programs frequently for our membership and guests. We aspire to advance the art and craft of photography aesthetically and technically for all who wish to participate.
Note: Any photograph submitted to the club and/or posted by a member remains owned by and with the copyright of the member. The JRCC has a limited license to exhibit these photos for the purpose they were submitted.
If you want to join James River Camera Club, just show up at any meetup posted and you can meet folks and decide if you would like it. We try to meet in person each month.

Blind Photo Critique and Potluck
Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Rd, Newport News, VA, USFor our December meeting, we will continue our tradition of a blind photo critique and potluck.
We will have a signup for food and drinks in the near future.

During the meeting, we will take a look at the member-submitted photos for discussion. This is designed to provide constructive suggestions for members. We won't tolerate negativity. As we did last year, the focus is on what members did right and what others think could improve the photos. This will be fun. Besides, we will have food.
So, get your photos uploaded and we will have some fun at the meeting.

The Art of Seeing: Success in Photography is in the Details
Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Rd, Newport News, VA, USMany photographers focus heavily on cameras, lenses, and technical settings, yet still struggle to create compelling photographs. The real challenge is often not the equipment, but the ability to recognize meaningful moments, interesting light, and visual opportunities before pressing the shutter.
In this presentation, award-winning photographer and educator Joe Edelman explores the idea of “seeing” as the most important skill a photographer can develop. Participants will learn how to slow down, observe their surroundings more carefully, and recognize the visual elements that turn ordinary scenes into strong photographs. By developing a more thoughtful approach to observation and awareness, photographers will gain practical tools that help them discover better images wherever they shoot.
Mr. Edelman will appear via Zoom. The club meeting will still be held at Temple Baptist Church and we can watch the presentation together. The Zoom link can be provided upon request.
