Re: [MelbJVM] Online Course: "Develop Java Embedded Applications Using a Raspberry Pi"

Hello, stock quite a lot of stuff for the raspberry pi although it can be hard to find things in their huge catalog unless you get the searches right.
Core Electronics and Little Bird Electronics both seem to be adafruit resellers here in Australia that I know of. (There are probably others)

Hi MelbJVM'ers

You may remember a while back Oracle did a survey about holding an online MOOC on Internet of Things.

This has now come to fruition and will start on March 31st.  See the email below to enrol.

You'll need to get some hardware, a Raspberry Pi, sensors, cables, etc.

They have partnered with Adafruit in the US to sell a kit with everything you need for the MOOC, a raspberry pi, powersupply, memory cards, cables, breadboards, etc.  The kit is $149 (USD) with a RasPi or $89 without (GPS/Wifi/Sensor) though you don't have to get it through them. Postage appears to be about $30 USD.

However, Adafruit also list some Aussie distributors (south pacific).  I haven't yet checked if they have the kit (this was just announced a few hours ago) but will start asking over the next few days.  I know a few people on this list already have RasPi's and are involved in relevant hackerspace and raspi meetups in Melbourne. If thats you, I'd appreciate it you could take a look at the hardware list and let us know where we could this stuff from a bit closer to home.
