About us

This is a group for anyone interested in meeting like-minded people and socialising by participating in hiking adventures. All skill levels are welcome. We started this group in 2018 to help people get connected, travel together and explore amazing natural wonders.

With us you get to:

🚌 Discover destinations that aren’t easily reached by public transport. London Social Hiking is the only hiking group licensed to operate minibuses, making all our experiences truly unique.

🗺️ Be part of a small group (maximum 15 people). Many of you agree that small-group trips offer a more rewarding experience, greater flexibility and better opportunities to connect with fellow hikers and nature.

🥾 Enjoy hikes led by qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders and Lowland Leaders.

💰 Benefit from great value. London Social Hiking is a not-for-profit group, so the price of each hike simply covers the running costs and is significantly lower than what a commercial operator would charge for a similar trip.

We’re off to Norfolk! The seals in Norfolk are truly one of Britain's most special sights. Without any doubt, they're an incredible WOW factor and one that you must see!

On this day hike, we'll walk along the top of the sand dunes and enjoy stunning panoramic views across the North Sea. On our way, we'll pass the much-loved grey seal colony at Horsey Beach, which draws thousands of visitors each year, particularly between November and March, when the seals come ashore to breed. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of seals and their pups stretching for as far as the eye can see!

The whole walk is in the Broads National Park – one of fifteen national parks in the UK. You'll discover its iconic windmills, navigable waterways and broads (man-made, shallow lakes). With over 125 miles of lock-free waterways, the Norfolk Broads have more miles of waterway than Venice or Amsterdam, and are an extremely popular boating holiday destination! Locals like to call the Broads “the Venice of the East”.

💪 This walk is suitable for all abilities – it is almost entirely flat and done at a very gentle pace to allow us enjoy the nature and take plenty of pictures.

    HIKE HIGHLIGHTS

    • Take a gentle stroll over the vast open expanse of the golden sand dunes of Winterton Beach – a Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is a veritable haven for birds and all kinds of wildlife and is widely regarded as having the best sand dunes in Norfolk.
    • See the spectacular Horsey Windpump – the youngest and largest windpump in the Norfolk Broads. It was built in 1912 to pump water out from the surrounding land so that it could be used for farming.
    • Discover Horsey Mere, often regarded as one of the most beautiful of the northern broads and famous for its internationally important wildlife.

🐚 (Beginners) Hiking the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site

🐚 (Beginners) Hiking the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site

    Novotel London West, London, GB

    #################

We’ve created a list of FAQs to help answer your questions.

    #################

Join us for a very special trip as we head to Dorset to discover the dramatic and famous Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage coastline! Stretching 95 miles between Old Harry Rocks and Orcombe Point, the Jurassic Coast – England’s first Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site – is the most geologically diverse coastline in the world. The exposed cliff sections allow us to look back across 185 million years; dinosaur remains have been found here, and it’s a fossil-hunter’s paradise.

On this magnificent coastal hike, we'll visit the iconic natural limestone arch of Durdle Door and the famous scallop-shaped Lulworth Cove with its white pebble beach and crystal clear waters. On our way, we'll see many lovely bays and beaches and enjoy excellent views of the Isle of Portland, which was host of the sailing events of the 2012 Olympics. Most of the route follows the cliff-top trail, with stunning panoramic views of sweeping bays, folded cliffs and the sea. There will be a few steep ascents and descents, but all of your efforts will be well rewarded by the jaw-dropping beauty around you!

We have kept the distance shorter (5 miles / 8 kilometres) to have the difficulty of this trail on the Easy/Moderate border. We'll walk at a slower pace and take many breaks on the uphill sections, as needed. This trip is therefore suitable for all reasonably fit BEGINNERS – a great way to experience hiking before joining our more difficult hikes! 🤩

    #################

Ready to embark on an epic and challenging “miniature mountain range” adventure? Then join us on a day hike to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty! We'll walk south to north, taking in all the main summits of the Malvern Ridge. This is a difficult hike with lots of ascents and descents. However, all our efforts will be well-rewarded by the dramatic scenery!

Rising abruptly from the flat lands of the Vale of Severn in the east and from the rolling hills of Herefordshire in the west, the Malvern Hills reach their highest point at Worcestershire Beacon (425 metres). The spectacular landscapes and a wealth of ecological, historical and geological gems make them a unique destination. Did you know that at about 700 million years old, the rocks that form the Malvern Hills are some of the oldest in the UK?

The lofty Malvern range has drawn people since prehistoric times. Its summits offered good vantage points and were ideal for defence in troubled times. Our route will pass the impressive Iron Age hill forts of British Camp and Midsummer Hill, both believed to be over 2,000 years old. We’ll also visit the intriguing Hermit’s Cave (also known as Clutter’s Cave), a man-made chamber carved into the ancient rock at an unknown date.

Our hike concludes in Great Malvern, once a fashionable spa retreat for Georgian and Victorian society. For centuries, the Malvern Hills have been well-known for their health-giving spring waters. Many famous people came to Malvern to “take the cure”, including Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens.

Come and join us on a hike to Corfe Castle – one of England's most majestic ruins! The first stone of Corfe Castle was laid more than 1,000 years ago and since then it has been at the centre of battles, plots and mysteries. It has been a treasury, military garrison, royal residence and family home. On this one-day hike, we'll discover this iconic medieval skyscraper standing 21 metres tall, on the top of a 55-metre-high hill. Corfe Castle dominates the skyline of the Purbecks for miles around and the views are simply breathtaking.
