What we’re about

This is a group for anyone interested in meeting like-minded people and socialising by participating in hiking adventures. All skill levels are welcome. We started this group in 2018 to help people get connected, travel together and explore amazing natural wonders.

With us you get to:

🚌 Discover destinations that are not easily reached by public transport. London Social Hiking is the ONLY hiking group that holds the licence to operate minibuses. All our experiences are unique!

🗺️ Be part of a small group (max 15 people). A lot of you guys agree that small-group tours offer a more rewarding experience, more flexible itineraries and better opportunities to connect with fellow hikers and nature.

🥾 All trips are led by qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders and Lowland Leaders.

💰 London Social Hiking is a not-for-profit group, therefore you get an amazing value too! The price of the hikes covers the running costs of the group and is significantly lower than what a commercial operator would charge for similar trips.

London Social Hiking is off to discover the Isle of Portland, the southernmost point of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and the venue for sailing events during the 2012 Olympics!

The Isle of Portland is 6 kilometres long by 3 kilometres wide and is connected to the mainland by the breath-taking sweep of the shingle ridge of Chesil Beach. On this walk, we'll explore dramatic, rugged limestone cliffs and hidden coves, and enjoy stunning coastal views and landscapes shaped by centuries of military activity, farming, fishing and quarrying. Did you know that the world-famous Portland stone has been quarried here since Roman times, and many famous buildings – including St Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum, Tower Bridge and the United Nations headquarters in New York – were built using it?

The hike will finish at the fishing village of Chiswell, where we'll enjoy well-deserved drinks and refreshments next to Chesil Beach – one of the best sunset locations in Dorset (sunset at 16:44)! 🌅

    HIKE HIGHLIGHTS

    • Breath-taking clifftop views along Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon
    • Small secluded beach at Church Ope Cove
    • Pulpit Rock and Portland Bill Lighthouse
    • Dramatic views to the cliffs of Purbeck and Portland Harbour
    • The ‘Spirit of Portland’ sculpture which depicts a fisherman and a quarryman to represent the two main industries of the Isle
    • Tout Quarry Sculpture Park – a former quarry that is now home to over 60 sculptures, carved from Portland stone
    • The Olympic Rings sculpture, created to celebrate the 2012 Olympics, in which Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy hosted the sailing events

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Hiking the Atlantic Coast of Pembrokeshire National Park

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Hiking the Atlantic Coast of Pembrokeshire National Park

    Novotel London West, London, GB

    #################

Travel in a small group (max 14 people) by a private minibus and discover the most beautiful trails in Britain! This will be our last weekend trip in 2025.

We’ve created a list of FAQs to help you.

    #################

This weekend we’re off to Pembrokeshire in Wales to explore the spectacular Atlantic coastline and the National Park! The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is the UK's only coastal national park and is home to some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery.

Departing from London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to St David's Peninsula. Today we'll hike along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail from the huge sandy Newgale Beach (Blue Flag awarded!) to Caerfai Bay. This section is jam-packed with views: hidden coves and caves, natural arches, wild off-shore islands, picturesque harbours, historic forts and incredible seabird colonies await us! We'll finish our hike at St Non's Bay, next to the holy chapel, said to be the birthplace of the patron saint of Wales, St David. After the hike, we'll check in at our hotel in St David's, where we'll rest and enjoy a comforting dinner.

On Sunday, after an early breakfast, we'll continue our beautiful walk along the cliff-top trail. The rugged coastline will take us to the scenic St Justinian's Harbour, with fantastic views of Ramsey Island, which we'll see across the notorious mile-long Ramsey Sound. Ramsey Island has the largest colony of Atlantic grey seals in Southern Britain – about 700 pups are born here every year! Watch out for seals, dolphins and porpoises, as they can often be seen swimming and playing around the coast! Taking in spectacular views of inaccessible coves, natural arches and small off-shore islands, we'll walk past the lovely sheltered harbour at Porthclais, Porthlysgi Bay and the westernmost point of mainland Wales at Pen Dal-aderyn. We'll finish our hike at Whitesands Bay Beach (Blue Flag awarded!), with its wide expanse of fine white sand. We'll then stop for lunch in the UK's smallest city, St David's. You'll have free time to visit the 12th-century St David's Cathedral and buy delicious traditional Welsh cakes from MamGu bakery! 🥞
