I wanted to give you a progress report on the development of Day Street Press, the Shut Up & Write! digital publishing imprint. Our goal is to launch the DSP website later this year with a wide range of services designed to help Shut Up & Write! members bring their work to market. These services will including editing, graphic design, promotion & marketing, social media, digital conversion and publishing to all the major ebook retailers.
As many of you know, one of our members and founding organizers, Bob Finlayson, recently published his new science fiction novel, Gene Pool: Unnatural Selection, through Day Street Press. Much of the book was written during Shut Up & Write! weekly sessions, so his achievement is proof of what you can accomplish through regular attendance.
Bob volunteered to be a guinea pig so we can test the various DSP services. Here are some of the early results of the book Promotion & Marketing Package we are developing:
• Gene Pool: Unnatural Selection was featured this week on the prestigious Bibliophilic Book Blog. You can check out the feature here. For those not familiar with Bibliophilic, you’ll find it is an excellent source for information on new book releases. I encourage you to explore the site.
• On September 24, Bob will be a guest blogger on the widely read USA Today Book Blog Happy Ever After to talk about his book. You can find the Happy Ever After blog here.
• In October – air date TBD – you can hear Bob’s Perspectives column entitled The End of Death on KQED. The column focuses on how advancements in genetic and bio-engineering will enable the dramatic extension of human life, which is also a theme of Bob’s novel.
Check out the book website and Facebook and Twitter pages to see the type of marketing and social media services Day Street Press will provide to our members. Let us know what you think as we are still finalizing the templates, design, etc. (Of course, your support of a fellow SU&W! member’s work is always greatly appreciated. When you have a moment, visit the Gene Pool book website and download the first chapter free. You can purchase the book on Kindle, Nook, or iTunes.)
Pricing for all of the various Day Street Press services has not yet been finalized, but will be announced with the launch of the website. So stay tuned!
In other news, we just launched a Shut Up & Write! Facebook page. You’ll find announcements about Day Street Press and other SU&W! activities on the page. Don’t forget to “like” the page!
