What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC), 7/19/22.
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.
VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

See all- VSDC at DC Sing-Along & DC Vegan1717 15th St NW, Washington, DC
Come and sing your heart out with the Veg Society of DC at a fun hootenanny led by DC Sing-Along at Workshop House at 1717 15th Street! And....afterwards, we'll visit VSDC *GreenRewards discount partner DC Vegan which is only a 10 minute walk away at 1633 P Street, NW.
You can read about the DC-Sing Alongs in a recent Washington Post story. The reporter described it this way, "Dozens of people crammed into the living room, crowded on couches and chairs for a gathering unlike many in D.C. There would be no talk of politics, day jobs or even pets. There would be little talk at all...Soon, this ragtag choir was belting out, “Tonight’s gonna be a good night.” By the time they finished the final “yeah, yeah, yeah” from Usher, smiles filled the room."
The sing-along is free but a donation to DC Sing-Along to show appreciation and cover expenses (like your own personal kazoo) would be greatly appreciated.
Since this event has limited space, please only RSVP if you plan to attend both the Sing-Along and dinner at DC Vegan afterwards. We need to have an accurate head count for the Sing-Along and for DC Vegan, so please update your RSVP if you plans change and please do so in plenty of time so that someone else can take you place. (In other words, NOT at the last minute.)
Please read the details of how the Sing-Along works, but here's a short summary:
*Bring your voice (musical ability is NOT required)
*Bring an acoustic instrument if you have one (chords will be provided)
*Call out your favorite song
*Bring the kids too (as long as you're ok with a smidge of profanity)Space is limited, so please change your RSVP in a timely fashion if your plans change.

- VSDC Book Club discusses “The Vegan” (online)Link visible for attendees
Please join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of Andrew Lipstein’s novel, “The Vegan.” This meeting will take place online, via zoom.
“Narrator Herschel Caine is trying to establish a quantitative fund with the potential to ‘upend the very definitions of public stocks, investing, money itself.’ … Before the deal is resolved … Herschel has a moral crisis; he grows horrified by the vast power of his firm’s algorithm, argues that art should have a social purpose, and becomes a vegan.” - Publishers Weekly (About the book and the author’s vegetarianism: https://www.ourhenhouse.org/ep725/ )
To participate read at least half the book — and RSVP at least two days before the meeting. People who RSVP yes will get the details to join the discussion (the weekend before the meeting). The details will not be posted on meetup.
The VSDC Book Club began meeting online in March 2020 (previously we met in vegetarian restaurants in DC or nearby Maryland or Virginia). We read fiction and nonfiction in alternating months, about any topic. For more information (including everything we have read over 30+ years!) visit: https://vsdc.org/Book-Club
