What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC).
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.

•OnlineVSDC Book Club discusses “How to Know a Person” (online)
OnlinePlease join the Veg Society of DC Book Club discussion of “How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen” by David Brooks. This meeting will take place online, via zoom.
“How to Know a Person helps readers become more understanding and considerate …. Along the way it offers a possible remedy for a society that is riven by fragmentation, hostility, and misperception.” — USA Today

•OnlineVSDC Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group
OnlinePlease join the Veg Society of DC Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group for another great discussion - our 6th session.
Announcement!
We are trying something NEW: meeting series! The next 2-3 meetings will relate to the series topic, but each meeting will involve unique materials and content. We hope this format gives attendees notice of what topics they can expect to discuss at upcoming meetings and allow the group to dive deeper into various subjects!
The upcoming series will be about theories of change in the animal rights movement. We will review data on the efficacy of different tactics, read pieces by thought leaders in the movement, and assess the recent successes and failures of animal rights organizations.
What is the Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group?
If you’ve been looking for a way to educate yourself on animal rights and issues affecting animals in our world today with the support of a like-minded community, then this group is for you. The VSDC Animal Rights Discussion and Education Group will discuss thoughts, questions, concerns, and news related to animal rights. It seeks to provide a safe space for discussions around issues affecting captive animals, farmed animals, animals used in research, wild animals, companion animals, and more.
All are welcome, from those well-versed in animal rights philosophy and issues to those who are just starting off on their journey and are curious to learn more. Please come with an open mind, an open heart, and a willingness to engage with diverse opinions with curiosity and respect.
The plan is for the group to meet every month, alternating between Zoom and in person. The topic of each meeting and any accompanying materials will be planned in advance and posted in event announcements via this VSDC meetup group. Participants are encouraged to offer topic ideas and materials for discussion at subsequent meetings.
Date / Time: Saturday, December 6th, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
Location: Zoom (link and videoconference details to be provided to attendees who RSVP closer to meeting date)
Email 'ARdiscuss@vsdc.org' for further information.

VSDC Vegan Holiday Cookie Exchange
The WestLee Condominium Community Room, 2200 N Westmoreland St, Falls Church, VA, USYou are invited to attend what we hope will be the first annual VSDC Vegan Holiday Cookie Exchange!
How it will work: Bring 4 dozen (or more!) of your favorite holiday cookies to share. That should be enough so that each person can have one or two cookies from each attendee. You will go home with a variety of cookies to enjoy with family, friends, or just keep them to yourself!
Need inspiration/recipes? Check out Nora Cooks, Vegan Richa, It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken, or simply google "Vegan Cookies".
Extra optional activity: we will have many vegan cookbooks available for free to anyone who would like them. If you have cookbooks you don’t use, consider bringing them, too. It could be a cookbook exchange/giveaway too!
VSDC is very grateful to our member Heidi Mootz for organizing and hosting this event!
