What we’re about
This Meetup group is run by the Veg Society of DC (VSDC), 7/19/22.
The Veg Society of DC hosts the events and pays the Meetup fee. You do not have to be a member of VSDC to participate in our events, but we encourage you to join. All of our events are vegan and we have a lot of fun! Membership enables you to enjoy members-only benefits like receiving discounts from our GreenRewards participating partners.
VSDC is a completely volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff. and is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors.
Founded in 1927, the Veg Society of the District of Columbia (VSDC) is the nation’s oldest continuously operating 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization promoting an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle through education, community-building, and social activities throughout the DC metro area.
VSDC believes in treating all people, animals, and the planet with respect and kindness. We are committed to creating a more compassionate and caring world.
We do this by creating a community of like-minded people who are on the path to an all-plant diet and vegan lifestyle. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on this path, we offer resources and fellowship to support you. We make your journey easier, more enjoyable and meaningful.
VSDC. Creating communities for your health, the animals, and the planet.

See all- VSDC Packs Fruits and Veggies for Local Families in NeedCommon Root Farm, Derwood, MD
Have you volunteered at a food bank and cringed as you helped pack foods, including meat and dairy, that don't align with your values? Community FarmShare supports families in need while caring about the health of those they serve and the environment.
Join us at the Community FarmShare Hub to help pack fruits and vegetables grown on local small-scale farms for those lacking access to healthy foods. The bags we (and other volunteers) pack will be distributed to more than 500 families.
We will stand for the entire shift, so wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. We recommend you bring a water bottle and feel free to bring a light vegan snack. Packing takes place partially outdoors but shaded, so dress for the weather. There is a porta-potty on site.

Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct
When you sign up to join, you automatically acknowledge VSDC's Liability Waiver and commit to follow the code of conduct found at Policies - VSDC - Veg Society of DC - Vegan Trekkers: 7 Mile Loop Hike, Prince William Forest National ParkPrince William Forest Park, Triangle, VA
Join us for a 7 mile hike through the largest protected natural area in the DMV, Prince William Forest Park. Encompassing over 18,500 acres and rich in history, this land was once home to an enclave of formerly enslaved people which was gradually converted from the late 1930's to national parkland.
We'll meet in front of the Visitors Center and take the Pyrite Mine Loop Trail beyond the picnic area to the right. From there we'll pick up a loop trail that winds through one of the country's best examples of Eastern Piedmont forest. If we're lucky we'll see evidence of the park's wildlife, including beavers, deer, and squirrels.
This hike is rated as difficult largely due to its length and terrain. Prepare to encounter uneven and possibly muddy woodland trails, with 600 feet of elevation gain, by wearing sturdy hiking shoes and appropriate clothing.
Park map: https://www.nps.gov/prwi/planyourvisit/maps.htm
Transportation: Park at the Pine Grove Picnic Area. We’ll meet in front of the adjacent Visitors Center. Note that there is a $20 fee to enter the park, which is waived for U.S. National Park Service annual or lifetime pass holders. If you can offer a ride, please post in the comments section with metro station or other accessible location for pick up. Carpooling is a great way to meet people and help the environment!
Dog friendly: Yes. Please keep your dog leashed at all times.
Restrooms: Yes, located outside of the visitors' center.
Food/Water: Bring your own vegan snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverage to enjoy mid hike. Please carry plenty of water!
Weather: Be prepared! We will hike rain or shine, but if conditions pose a danger, we’ll cancel the hike and post a notice in the “comments” section. We suggest that hikers wear comfortable footwear and suitable clothing made from quick-dry, synthetic fabrics, as cotton can lead to uncomfortable blisters and life-threatening hypothermia in case of inclement weather.
For important updates regularly monitor the "comments" section below.
Don't be a no show! If your plans change, update your RSVP.*Please read The 10 Essentials of Hiking: https://americanhiking.org/resources/10essentials/ *
