Hey Rick!
Just a thought on location.  There is a lovely coffee house in Clifton Park called Mocha Lisa's that has a large back room for events.  It is similar to Professor Java's but more conducive to discussion, I think.

After reviewing the few comments posted at the event page (there was no response to the poll), I've determined the book we will discuss is Matthew Chapman's 40 days and 40 nights : Darwin, Intelligent Design, God, Oxycontin, and Other Oddities on Trial in Pennsylvania. I see that the Upper Hudson Library System has three copies available for lending and, without checking, it seems that other major city and suburban libraries would likely have copies as well. Further I see that Amazon has new paperbacks of this title for $13.22, and used copies for various really cheap prices. And if you're out at the mall any time soon, it would be worth checking B&N, Borders, Walden, Bookhouse, etc. to see if they have it in stock or could get it quickly.

A word of clarification on the program. Some folks gathered from the original announcement that a viewing of the PBS video Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial would be additional "homework" for the event and thought that a bit burdensome. Actually, my thought was that we might view the video at the event, as an adjunct to the discussion. We'll see about that. Maybe yes and maybe no. The DVD, though a terrific accompaniment to the book, is nearly two hours long. There is also an issue with public performance rights... I'm not sure the home DVD copy allows this, and I'm still investigating. Please chime with your thoughts. In any case, those interested can watch the video free, on-line here. And there's no need to look at any of this as homework. Feel free to come to the event not having read the book or seen the video. Or do one and not the other, if you like. It's the discussion that counts.

I see in the mail list that the venue has caused concern for some. I agree The Mill is not an optimal location for this kind of event and I'm working on a change of venue to a centrally-located public library. Stay tuned for that.

Finally, as the date approaches I'll mail out a list of points/questions based on the book and video that we might discuss, and I hope others will add to that list.

I hope this settles some doubts and spurs some additional "yeses" for the event.
