Time Travel Party @ Heretic House (Hosted by Atheists United)
Hey Meetup Friends,
You’re invited to Atheists United's first major gathering of the year on May 2nd! It’s a Time Travel Party… supporting a timely cause!
***
### Get Tickets
Want to cherish the past, go back to the future, or boldly go where no one has gone before? Join our annual community party in a 130-year-old Victorian mansion in Echo Park! (Costumes representing the past or future are encouraged, but never required.)
Our party will include:
- Live music
- Food & drinks
- Silent auction
- Private tour of Heretic House
(Check out pics from prior Time Travel parties here and here!)
***
### Gender-Inclusive Clothing Drive
It’s also a gender-inclusive clothing drive in support of the Los Angeles LGBT Center!
For the first time ever, we’re giving away free admission or drinks with a donation of clothing or makeup that meets the Center’s guidelines. (Alternatively, you can show proof of purchase from the LGBT Center’s Amazon wish list.)
***
### Let’s Leave Inequality in the Past
Our event is part of the American Empathy Project: a nationwide day of action showing that empathy is stronger than cruelty.
LGBTQ+ communities face higher rates of economic hardship. Trans and nonbinary people are often excluded from traditional clothing drives (like those with strict men’s/women’s sections). Items like binders, tucking garments, or more androgynous styles are not usually included.
We want clothing inequality to be history… and celebrate a brighter future for everyone!

Only 120 tickets available.
Sign up now to become a new member and get a big discount.

Change myself, change the world…
SMART Recovery® (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addictive substances and activities.
Welcome to our community! Our discussions are based on scientific knowledge and evolve as scientific knowledge evolves. SMART is helpful for some participants primarily because they become involved with a new community of helpful and friendly people. For others, SMART is helpful primarily because they learn new ways of thinking about themselves and their behavior.Although we have science-based ideas for you to consider, no one will tell you what to do. Our slogan is “Discover the Power of Choice.” For many SMART is a combination of a new community and new ways of thinking. You can be involved with SMART in whatever way you want to. We look forward to your participation.

Where curiosity is celebrated
At Atheists United, we understand better than anyone the importance of creating a safe, secular space for people to explore their ideas, identities, and values. Youth should be celebrated, not shamed, for asking honest questions.
According the US Secular Survey:
- 15% lower rate of depression among youth active in a local secular community
- More than a third of secular youth had negative experiences with family due to their nonreligious identity
- One third of secular youth had negative experience in education due to their nonreligious identity
- Nearly 50% of young people are religiously unaffiliated
