New Meetup: Pogonip to UCSC to Grey Whale to Wilder with Car Shuttle

Announcing a new Meetup for 35ish-65ish Bay Area Hikers, Daytrippers and Playful People!

What: Pogonip to UCSC to Grey Whale to Wilder with Car Shuttle

When: September 25,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $1.00 per person

on the road at Golf Club Dr about
half a block up from the insection of Golf Club Dr. and Highway 9
Santa Cruz, CA 95060

A "long one." People are welcome to come for the first part and then retrace their steps as long as they do it with another hiker and call the office number[masked] to check in upon their return.

My plan is to park at Golf Club Drive, walk up through the pogonip, stop for a restroom/lunch break at Crown College and then take the UCSC trails to Twin Gates at Empire Grade. Cross Empire Grade and come down through Grey Whale and Wilder. I haven't done this all in one piece before just sections of it individually. I think it's about 13 or 14 miles with the uphill portion in the first half of the hike.

This will be an exploratory. Bring 1/2 gallon of water at least. We can refill the water bottles at Crown. Sunscreen, sunhat, lunch, snacks, sweater, headlamp or flashlight in case we are late getting back. I'm going to ask my partner to pick us up at Wilder Ranch around 7pm or so, but I really don't know how long it will take since I haven't hiked it in one day before. We might need some more people to pick us up depending on how many sign up. Trail running shoes or boots with two pairs of socks would probably be your best bet.

Hope you all can come. :)
