Via Beth Tucker Long:Special Milwaukee PHP Meetup, Sept 11
Elizabeth Naramore of EngineYard, co-founder of PHPWomen, and an all-around awesome individual will be speaking at a special Milwaukee PHP Meetup on September 11th. EngineYard will be providing food and swag.
Her talk is titled Get a Hammer for that Nail: You're starting a new project from scratch, but you're not sure what framework you want to use. Maybe you don't want to use a pre-existing framework at all. Maybe you should use a microframework, or roll something out on your own instead. How do you know which direction to go in and which tool to pick from your PHP framework toolbox? In this fun and 100% interactive discussion, we'll solve those problems together, and help make sure you get the right hammer for your nails. Volunteers will be rewarded. I would love it if we could get a group out there from the Madison group. They are starting an hour later than their normal start time so that us Madison folks can make it. I have heard Elizabeth speak many times, and it is always an awesome talk. Not only that, but this will be a great opportunity to meet some new devs from the Milwaukee area. I've been to the Milwaukee meetup several times, and it's a really great group of people. I will definitely be going, so if anyone needs a ride, just let me know.

Build Madison, Sept 22-23
Build Madison is back with a few new tweaks and the same old crew to run our 3rd Community Create-a-thon Saturday-Sunday September 22-23, and it's going to be the best one yet! Come together to show off and build the talent of Madison's community while making real products from concept to completion in just 24 hours. Meet great people, learn new skills and don't forget to enjoy the food, drinks and prizes put up by our great sponsors to fuel our creative fire.
The event layout will be similar to the previous two: idea pitches starting at 11 AM Saturday, team formation, open build time throughout the day and night, and then presentations/prizes Sunday at noon. We'll be providing snacks, drinks and dinner on Saturday as well as breakfast for the over-nighters early Sunday morning. Please Register at the Build Madison website so we know how many people to plan for.
Also, if you have an idea you've been wanting to make into reality- pitch it! A number of teams in the past have gone on to successful launch; take advantage of the experienced and talented crowd to get the team and support you need. We're also adding a panel of experienced entrepreneurs to give feedback on presentations and help groups take their projects to the next level. Spread the word and help us make this the best Build Madison yet.
If you have any questions, please contact Mike Fenchel at [address removed]. Looking forward to seeing you there!
