Back to Basics: Photography using a Tripod and Prime Lens

Details
Please read this annoucement in its entirety before submitting your RSVP
In the age of digital cameras, zoom lenses, huge SD cards and preview monitors, photographers have gotten away from the conscious and deliberate acts of composition and camera settings which were necessary in the days of film photography when each photograph had to be a keeper.
We will spend the morning in Balboa Park photographing a variety of subjects, architecture, sculptures, portraits, plants, trees, etc. The challenge is to do the following:
Photograph using a tripod with a prime lens in manual focus mode with the camera preferably also set to manual mode as well and not using the preview monitor. Camera should be set to only one ISO setting, preferably the lowest, i.e. 100 or 200.
You will need to bring the following to participate: A tripod, a cable release if you have one and a prime lens. Wide primes will work as will longer lenses, and of course also your 50mm lenses. If you do not have a prime lens, use a zoom lens at one focal length only. (Note: 50mm f/1.8 lenses for both Nikon and Canon can be purchased for $100-$125 and even less used and really a good addition to any camera bag).
We will meet at the fountain at 8:00AM, take the group photo and then photograph in different sections of the park in small groups. We can meet at the fountain again at 10:00AM and discuss our experiences.
