Notes from this meetup are now available. (https://www.exchangejs.com/events/oct-2016/)
Exchange.js is an open community of local developers and designers, who meet monthly to discuss a wide range of topics within the JavaScript ecosystem.
We're excited to be back from summer and are ready to kick off another year of meetups and events! After a soft launch over the break, we're announcing our new monthly hackup on the third Wednesday of every month. It's a chance for members of all backgrounds and skills to come together to build something every month. Bring your projects, ambitions and questions and make something awesome. Watch the Startup Edmonton Meetup page (http://meetup.com/startupedmonton) for upcoming events!
Based off feedback from members, we're also launching the JavaScript Basics series. Every month we'll kick off our evening with a quick review of a core JavaScript feature. It's a chance to help ease new members into JavaScript, and for our more experienced members to refresh and maybe learn a thing or two! Feedback and suggestions for topics are welcome.
We've got three great speakers joining us this month.
Up first is Mark Bennett (https://twitter.com/MarkBennett) from Burmis Studio (http://burmis.ca) presenting our inaugural JavaScript Basics talk on Callbacks and Closures (https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1mEqScsUT1cuYAYFeBoMmPyM_zNhDyPCSxNTnnSRwIhQ/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000). Mark is contract software developer here in Edmonton. When not programming he's busy at home with his kids, or organising Exchange.js.
Our next speaker is Karim Baaba (https://twitter.com/KarimBaaba) from Jobber (http://getjobber.com) with, "Oh, await!" Join him as he explores asynchronous programing in JavaScript with the new async/await syntax and how they can transform the way you write JavaScript code.
We'll wrap our night with Amelia Bellamy-Royds (https://twitter.com/AmeliasBrain) as she walks us through, "SVG & the web standards process". Learn a little more about SVG and how the web platform is evolving everyday.
