Ever since some unpleasantness on a submarine in 1998, I have never
been given another position of responsibility... Until now.
Someone, somewhere has let their guard down and I now find myself
the Organiser of the #1 Entrepreneur Meetup - London.
It's a great group and being an entrepreneur is one of the most
exciting and rewarding things anyone can do. But I'm under no
illusion that attending these type of things can be a grind,
especially after a hard day's work.
I therefore propose a few things to try to breathe life into the
1. Each month I will produce a list of proposed topics that I
believe the group will be interested in. For the topic with the
most votes, I will arrange for an expert speaker to give a 50 minute
Q&A session. (I find Q&A sessions far more
interesting and useful than dreaded Powerpoint presentations). Of
course, you can all suggest topics of your own and for those with
high demand, I will arrange for an expert on the topic accordingly.
2. Each meetup will have a strong social element, i.e. will take
place in a pub/bar that's easy to get to. I think it's important to
unwind; to be yourself and to have a life and in this way we can do
all those things.
3. Starting from 6.30pm, each meetup will be a maximum of 1h 50mins
long. That's the length of a film. So you can either spend some
time socialising with other entrepreneurs; learning useful stuff;
discussing new ideas and getting inspiration. Or you can go watch
the latest Sarah Jessica Parker steaming pile of a film. Joking
aside, her films are dreadful. I appreciate that some of you may
want to do other things with your evening; therefore, shorter
I will post up the proposed topic list this week and ask members to
vote/suggest the ones they want.
If I was to sum up the direction I would like to take the group it
would be "useful and sociable". I hope members create meaningful
connections; make new friends and maybe even collaborate on future
projects. That would be fantastic.
I repeat: it is a great group. 460+ members (and counting) all
trying to accomplish similar goals in their own way. The experience
and information to be shared is immense. I encourage you all to get
off the bench and get in the game because being an entrepreneur is
one of the most rewarding things you can do in every sense of the
word. Enjoy setting goals, enjoy paying the price, enjoy your
I look forward to meeting more of you
over the coming months. Until then, feel free to email me with any
questions, suggestions or videos of honey badgers - they're awesome.
All the best
