We had one get together with the group at my house in Elmhurst a while back and I'd be happy to host another here.

Subject: [vocalists-151] Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all the songwriters and musicians out there,

I'm personally not real big on making grand resolutions that I can quickly break and forget, but I'll pass on something I try to do with varying degrees of success.  That's to try and do one thing every day to further your music.  It could amount to no more than writing a few lines, following up with a new contact, documenting that riff you're sure you'll never forget, attending a songwriter's meeting, submitting something to a licensing opportunity, or even making a plan for how to move forward.  And even if you only succeeding in doing something half the time, that would still be more than 175 days you made some sort of progress.  At the end of the year you'd be surprised at all you've accomplished, I bet.

With respect to the Chicago monthly meeting that had been at United Quick Transportation for much of 2012; we will no longer be meeting there.  First off, many thanks to Raul Villenova for the generous use of the facility.  Raul was a most gracious host and I personally thank him for his efforts.  I believe there's a SemiSonic song with a line, "every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end" and so we are headed in a new direction.  There have been a couple of challenges in finding another location, particularly if "free space" is the requirement.  As the old saying goes, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, to which I might add, or free meeting space.

I think it may be time to return to a model we used for a number of years and one that the CSC Christian group is successfully using.  That is meeting at someone's home, condo, apartment, etc.  Although all options have pluses and minuses, this one has the advantage of addressing a major topic -- ' the meeting is too far away from me'.  Nothing closer than home than home itself!  And it's a great reason to clean up (something of a personal weak point among my various virtues - lol)

I put a poll up on the meetup site to gauge interest in hosting - PLEASE RESPOND!  It's under the More tab, Polls.  www.meetup.com/vocalists-151

And lastly, although some of you have paid during the course of the year, it is time for annual dues.  A whopping $10.  They can be paid on the site via PayPal.  Thanks.

Looking forward to hearing a bunch of great music from all you talented folks out there.

John
