A PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR OF ‘INKY’ STEPHEN’S HOUSE – with Lits

Details

Stephen’s House is a wonderful Grade II listed Victorian mansion surrounded by beautiful, landscaped gardens in East Finchley – a hidden gem!

It takes its name from Henry ‘Inky’ Stephens, former MP for Hornsey & Finchley whose father built the family fortune by inventing Stephens’ Ink. Henry purchased the house and its 10 acres of gardens in 1874 and gifted it to the public upon his death.

Once commandeered as a RAF hospital during World War 1, today it is operated by a trust and access to the house is for groups only by prior arrangement. I have organised a private guided tour to discover this fascinating property and to gain an insight into the interesting life, work and philanthropy of ‘Inky’ Stephens.

The gardens remain true to Robert Marnock’s original late Victorian designs providing a mixed landscape; including an arboretum, a rockery, a bog garden, large park areas to play in and wooded areas in which to walk and are free to wander.

And here’s a spoiler alert – it is a soon to be location for the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow…..!

The tour will commence at 11.00 with tea/coffee and biscuits being served on our arrival. The visit will last approximately ninety minutes with the opportunity afterwards to take lunch together in their onsite café.

Cost: £25.50pp places limited to 14 people
