    Electronics Night at Ace Makerspace is an open lab where folks can:

    • Get help with your electronics projects including program microcontrollers
    • Learn a new skill like how to solder or how to use tools like Oscilloscopes
    • Get help getting started with electronics for repair, special projects, art, or cosplay
    • Access tools and supplies to repair electronics in small appliances and electronic devices
    • Your hosts have a variety of skills and access to tons of resources all in a well-appointed electronics lab set up for social distancing.

    Join fellow textiles enthusiasts for afternoon of creating in a social environment. The Ace Textiles program has a wide array of machines, tools, and supplies. See more here. Folks should expect to work independently, and no instruction is provided at this event, though peer support often happens.

    This event is Pot Luck so sharing food and drink is welcome. Please make sure your item has a label for common stuff so folks know if it is safe for them. Adult beverages may be served.

  • Multi-Wood Cutting Board 2-Day Workshop

    This is a two-day workshop!

    Day One: Saturday, August 13th • 3PM - 6PM
    Day One: Sunday, August 14th • 3PM - 6PM

    In this workshop students purchase their own wood pieces from the selection at McBeath Hardwood in Berkeley. They have an excellent selection of affordable Cutting Board Blanks. This wood has been pre-dimensioned for cutting boards.

    This workshop is suitable for beginners and you will learn core concepts in woodworking as you build your creation.

    We will be using these tools:

    • Table saw
    • Drum sander
    • Chop saw
    • Oscillating sander
    • Palm router (Round over bit/Chamfer bit)
    • Potentially the jointer or planer as well

    Certification is not required. This workshop included mentored tool use but is not a tool certification course. This workshop is good for beginners and experienced folks alike.

    What to wear :
    Closed-toe shoes, short sleeves and, work clothes. Long hair must be tied back.
    Safety Gear :

  • Sewing 101 Bootcamp

    Basic sewing lessons! Learn the basics and get hands-on time on machines. Great for beginners ages 13 and up.

    Timing and Location
    This 4-hour crash course in sewing covers basic sewing. We will be in the Textiles Studio located in Suite 206. Follow the directory in the hallway.

    What you will learn:

    • Machine and hand sewing skills
    • Basic sewing machine parts
    • Threading the machine
    • Changing the needle
    • Bobbin winding
      • Stitch types for different fabrics
      • Common hand sewing techniques More hands-on sewing practice
      • Sewing practice projects and exercises for both hand and machine sewing
      • Troubleshooting

    What to bring :

  • Dykes with Drills @ Ace: Serving Tray

    Join Dykes With Drills at Ace Makerspace for this fun beginner workshop and learn to make a cool serving tray perfect for entertaining! In this workshop, participants will learn to safely use the chopsaw and brad nail guns to make their own serving tray. Participants will also learn about “finishing” techniques (sanding, staining, painting, polyurthaning, etc.) to personalize their tray but finishing will be done on your own time. No prior woodworking experience required.

  • Laser Basics and Certification

    This workshop covers the basics of safe laser operation for laser users. All the basics for certification are also covered.

    This class is for good folks new to operating a laser or needing certification. It does not cover file preparation in detail. This workshop is 3 hours and is part lecture and review and part practical experience.

    Folks will learn:

    • How Lasers work
    • Laser cutting fundamentals
    • Toolchain and configuration
    • Test cutting and setting determination
    • Basics of Laser SoftProgram limits and benefits
    • Startup and shutdown procedures

    This class requires a minimum of 2 people to run.

    Take the knowledge online knowledge check to complete your certification after the class.

    Learn how to use the heavy-duty hardware setting equipment Ace Makerspace has in Textiles. This equipment is simple but also simple to get wrong. This is a certification workshop! This includes hands-on practice and not just theory!
