Jason Huggins on web application testing with Selenium, Feb 15

From: Alex V.
Sent on: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 12:08 PM
This coming Monday, February 15, the monthly Agile Denver event will
be held at the PPA Event Center near downtown Denver. Jason Huggins
will be in Denver to present "Web-application testing with Selenium".
Jason was the co-creator of Selenium in 2004, and a committer on the
Selenium Core and Selenium Remote Control projects.

Doors will open at 5:00 PM for network and refreshments. We have
rounded up an informal panel to explore Selenium and related topics.
Panelists will include Jason, and a group of local technologists with
a wealth of experience in web development and testing including Matt
Raible, Scott Allman, Chris McMahon, Thomas Albright and Joe Yakich.

Jason's formal presentation begins at 6:30 PM. This talk is applicable
to developers, testers, architects and managers involved in web and
mobile application development.

For those of you not already familiar with Selenium, it is "a portable
software testing framework for web applications. Selenium provides a
record/playback tool for authoring tests without learning a test
scripting language. Selenium provides a test domain specific language
(DSL) to write tests in a number of popular programming languages,
including Java, Ruby, Groovy, Python, PHP, and Perl. Test playback is
in most modern web browsers. Selenium deploys on Windows, Linux, and
Macintosh platforms."

Selenium is broadly used by web development teams at companies like
Google, Amazon, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and

Jason Huggins co-founded Sauce Labs and currently leads product
direction. Prior to Sauce Labs, Jason was a Test Engineer at Google
where he supported the grid-scale "Selenium Farm" for testing Google
applications such as Gmail and Google Docs. Jason's experience also
includes time at ThoughtWorks in Chicago as a software developer.
While at ThoughtWorks, Jason created the Selenium testing framework
out of the need to cross-browser test a new in-house time and expense

When not programming in Python or JavaScript, Jason enjoys hacking on
Arduino-based electronics projects. Jason has spent time in New York
City, LA, and the Bay Area, but Chicago is his kind of town.

Jason's favorite Selenium method is captureEntirePageScreenshot()

The current roster of panelist (subject to availability and weather):

* Thomas Albright: Local developer with Agile, web dev, and Selenium experience

* Scott Allman: Technical Program Manager at CableLabs, entrepreneur,
experienced testing champion and instructor

* Chris McMahon: Software testing leader with Selenium and SeleniumRC
experience, WebTest maintainer, http://chrismcmah...
and http://www.fitnes...

* Matt Raible: Denver-based UI author and consultant specializing in
open source Java and Ajax, founder of AppFuse, committer on Apache
Roller and Struts projects, Java open source contributor, served as UI
Architect for LinkedIn and Evite, and currently works for Time Warner
Cable as Chief Architect of Web Development, http://raibledesi...

* Joe Yakich: Local developer with experience in Selenium and
SeleniumRC and related web testing frameworks, contributed experience
