Clearing up some confusion about being back in the saddle

It has been brought to my attention that my last email to the group has created some confusion amongst BAGH members and I want to clarify a few things.

It is not a turnover in leadership of this Meetup.com group; I have been its organizer since October of 2008. Over the past three years I have lost both of my parents and organizing their estate and caregiving for my mother has been demanding so much of my time I have been unable to give BAGH the attention I had been. Thankfully, Laura has been more than generous with her time and keeping BAGH active. I hope she'll continue organizing meetups for us.

When I took over as BAGH Organizer, it had 227 members and been inactive for five and a half months. My goal was to have at least one meetup a month and build up an organizing team so the onus of keeping it active wasn't dumped on any one person all of the time. We're all unpaid volunteers and that can quickly burn out someone. Unfortunately, this seems to be what was happening for Laura. In my case, the hardships in my family had to take priority over my extracurricular activities. Now that I have a little more time, I plan to start adding more to our calendar.

As luck would have it, BAGH's other co-organizer, Deb Wible, also had similar issues going on in her life in addition to a job that has been demanding a lot of time from her.

Be that as it may, we both enjoyed setting up meetups for BAGH in the past and we want to start doing it again. Each organizer has other focuses in our interest of the paranormal, so this will give members more variety in what we offer. I was really pleased when Laura volunteered to help out because a lot of folks had been requesting investigations and she is fulfilling that aspect of the group. I hope she'll continue to do so. In the meantime, I'll go back to doing the social meetups and Deb will continue looking for tours, movies, book signings and all of the other delightful things she found for us in the past.

Please rest assured that Laura is welcome to continue working with BAGH for as long as she wants.

Hello there.

Now that the worst of my personal business has been taken care of, I will be setting up meetups for BAGH again. This weekend's movie-going meetup is my kickstart. I had several ideas for meetups before I was waylaid and now I plan on following up on them, so please bear with me as I look for some new haunted locations where we can socialize and network in general.

As for seeing Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak this weekend, I have been rethinking the No Refund policy on this meetup. Since I won't be purchasing the passes until Saturday morning, I'll issue refunds on those until the rsvp deadline at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. After 10 a.m., however, there will be no refunds, but tix are transferable.

I know I've been absent for quite a while now, but Deb and I have been discussing ideas. With more active organizers, there will be more meetups. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this Saturday!
