What we're about

The Bay Area Agile Leadership Network (BayALN) was founded in 2006 to support a community of practice in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. We provide a forum for sharing practical experiences and advice. We also explore and develop Agile techniques, understanding and practices at the project, department, organization and enterprise levels.

Systemic Coaching Special Interest Group [online]

Online event

This is a support group for Agilists in the trenches who want to explore the systemic group dynamics that can make Agile coaching so vexing. We are gathering Agile Coaches and Scrum Masters in a workshop format to dig deep into the hidden social contracts that are at the root of chronic challenges. They undermine our efforts to help teams find their journey to becoming self-organizing, high performing teams. In a confidential setting, we will explore the archetypal dynamics that translate well across organizations by looking at the specific work challenges you bring to the group like:

* Chronic conflict within and between teams and departments
* Challenges aligning with managers
* Stuck projects and Agile initiatives
* Coaching challenges with a team or specific team members
* Increase our ability to influence situations
* Shift team and departmental culture

Volker Frank will facilitate systemic constellations and share some of the underlying principles of self-organization that lead to the hidden contracts and allow us to resolve them. If you want to explore and understand these complex social and organizational issues in any coaching context, this group is for you.

In these sessions participants will:
* Experience systemic coaching while supporting others
* Learn how to look at organizational dynamics from a systemic perspective
* Receive coaching in a safe and supportive environment
* Share knowledge and wisdom
* Network and build closer connections with other participants

Come with questions and challenges you're experiencing on your Agile journey.

Please contact Volker Frank ([masked]) or Huy Nguyen ([masked]) if you have any questions.

Let it Flow: Agile@Salesforce through Kanban/KMM lens

Online event

Agile@Salesforce started around 2007 as a response to growing pains. It soon became how Salesforce delivers all of its software-as-a-service. Over time, both Salesforce staff and product portfolio continued to grow. The software-as-a-service market also continued to heat up. A decade later, the Agile team at Salesforce is in excellent position to show how agile works at scale in many delivery contexts. Kanban and the Kanban Maturity Model (KMM) provide a useful perspective on the evolution of Agile@Salesforce over time.

Using the same format they use to brief customers who ask for advice about agile practices, Erik Sowa and Noel Vega will share firsthand experience and valuable insights into how agile practices originated and evolved at Salesforce. Turning to present circumstances, they will tell the story of several teams that moved from shipping every four months to every two weeks. By attending tonight’s event you will learn:

- How to exploit KMM insights to improve fitness for purpose and deliver more value, sooner, with higher quality
- What practices were used to improve flow
- How values and culture are instrumental to making those practices “stick”
- How business outcomes improve with attention to flow

The interactivities invite audience participation in identifying opportunities to improve outcomes with attention to flow.

SPEAKERS:

Erik Sowa, agile coach with Salesforce Mobile Cloud
and
Noel Vega, Director of Strategy and Operations for the Salesforce Technology COO Organization
