Howdy! I have been meaning to get out to this area for a bit, and now seems like a great time to do so! This will be a 4 day, 3 night backpacking trip exploring the Savage Gulf State Park in Tennessee covering around 35 miles or so in total according to Gaia
Day 1- We will meet at the Savage Day Loop Trail head to park our cars, pack up, and head out on our trip. We will cover 8.77 miles this day on our way to the Hobbs Cabin campground. Along the way we will check out the Boyd Branch swinging bridge, Coppinger creek overlook, and Hobbs cabin.
Day 2- We will hike 9.74 miles to Alum Gap Primitive Campground stopping by and exploring the iconic Stone Door.
Day 3- This is a big day, with a ton to see! We will wake up early, and begin our 11.61 mile trek to Stagecoach Road Campground. Along the way we will visit Greeter Falls, Alum Gap overlook, Ranger Falls, and the Savage Homestead.
Day 4-We will hike the 5.33 miles back to our cars while visiting Yellow Bluff view, Step Down overlook, Savage Falls and overlook, and the Savage Creek swinging bridge.
I will be driving down on Thursday, and getting a room in Cookeville Tennessee on Thursday. I have reserved 2 rooms with 2 queen beds if others are interested. It is around a 5.5 hour to the trailhead from Cincinnati, and around 4.5 hour to Cookeville from Cincinnati. Whatever you decide to to, please make sure to be at the trailhead at 8am sharp to start our hike. I have paid $50 to reserve our campsites, and we will split that up accordingly depending on how many people decide to come.
Please remember, this is a backpacking trip in the backcountry woods with changing weather conditions. Pleas prepare as such. This includes food, shelter, water, clothing, and other items to keep you comfortable in the backcountry on a multiple day backpacking trip.
