Full Moon Tonight

From: Mountain Rose P.
Sent on: Friday, September 4, 2009, 12:50 PM
There have been quite a few RSVPs for tonight. If you haven't done so yet, please call one of the posted phone numbers to car pool. It is perfectly okay to get to the Echo Lake Lodge on your own. The best reason to carpool will be to avoid the predictable Labor Day traffic nightmare. With the unlikely possibility that the carpools being filled, keep in mind that you can use meetup to communicate with members of our group. Pinecam members know how to get hold of me.

Do not fear the possibility that there will be more people tonight than the sparse atmosphere above 14,000 can sustain' it is unlikely that participation will expand beyond the the definition of intimate.

What if it rains?

Despite subjective observations the weather pattern has been "normal" for this time of year. During the past few days clouds have built up into the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms have occurred followed by clearing in the late afternoon. I enjoy hiking in the 9,000 ft plus mountains in the vicinity of Mt Evans soI keep a watch on the weather forecasts. Besides the fact that they are unexpectedly unreliable I find great variability between the reports for my areas of interest. If I go by instinct and disregard most of them and often find myself looking down on clouds from a placein the sun. I live at the base of the Mt Evans Group and I very often abandon my deck in as a torrent falls and watch a calm sun-toasted meadow less than a quarter mile away rush toward me at high speed.

The atmosphere turbulence immediately east of the high peaks may generate clouds and rain while the summits stay clear. There is a high possibility that at sunset this evening, from the top of Mt Evans we will watch the a smoke enhanced mufti-color sunset to the west, the growing pyramid of Mt Evans shadow in the east and then the enlarged full moon orb emerge at the horizon.

And if the weather is forbidding?

The plan is that we will have dinner at the Echo Lake Lodge. If the summit itself is devoured by cloud, gale and torrents of water we will just savor each last crumb of desert and learn more about one another.

Once again, incase you still need to make the call, here is the contact information.
