Trailer: The screening will be followed by audience discussion and Q&A. *Suggested Donation: $10. Proceeds support BloomBars. Free organic popcorn. Nothing But a Man (1964, 95 min), by Michael Roemer - tells the story of a black railroad worker who falls in love with the town’s preacher’s daughter and tries to maintain his respect in the white racist South in the early 1960s. Ivan Dixon and Abbey Lincoln star in this painfully honest, enormously moving drama about African-American life in the South. NOTHING BUT A MAN is widely regarded as one of the very finest American films of the 1960s, and its depiction of the African American experience was so spot-on, that it reportedly became the favorite movie of Malcolm X. This award-winning film was restored by the US Library of Congress and added to the National Film Registry in 1993. Directions: The location is a 7 minute walk from Columbia Heights METRO, and parking garages at Target and at Giant. Street parking available on 11th St and Kenyon St - next to Tubman ES.
