What we’re about
The Silver Tsunami is here. Millions of baby boomers are the new Senior Citizens. However, in our society the old dreaded concepts about aging still exists.
In our youth-oriented society, most of us have grown up with a deep-seated fear and loathing of old age. Growing older generally means uselessness, helplessness, wrinkled skin, and chronic illnesses. To counter this perspective, we desperately swallow our fears and pretend that 70 is the new 50, grateful when someone “compliments” us saying “you look great for your age.” This is the societal unspoken goal in life—to look young for as long as possible.
Yet the reality is that as long as we are alive, we are constantly aging. And, we are constantly dealing with deep-seated ageism that exists in this society. Agism is a social issue and not an individual “problem” that we need to handle alone. Rather, society has painted a very narrow and prejudiced perspective about what aging is about. We are given the doom and gloom projection and not the possibility of aging with purpose and awareness. Likewise, we get no information about ways to cultivate joy which is the real secret to staying young.
Therefore, the purpose of this group is to honor the many authentic concerns we share about aging while opening to a larger perspective about aging. Together we are exploring many assumed beliefs we buy into; often unconsciously that actually impedes our ability to be our best healthy selves.
Since June, 2022 we have built a community of like-minded women where we both learn from each other and support one another in this stage of life. We explore serious topics with a light hearted touch.

The Cost of Isolation as we Age
OnlineNo question about it—humanity is in a crisis of major proportions. We are clearly living in an age of anxiety—our ever evolving fascist government and its devaluing human decency and morality, the climate catastrophe causing endless damage around the globe and the horrendous and unspeakable treatment of humans we are witnessing in many wars throughout the world all affect our wellbeing.
Then there is our own anxiety including the many challenges attributed to aging. We might have health concerns, or less energy, less cash, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands that we may not be going out as much as we used to.
It is no wonder life has become very very challenging.
We seem to be running just to stand still.
And thus, there is much social isolation leading not only a reduced quality of life but also real health concerns both physically and in cognitive decline.
So how do we deal with this??
For many living in elder communities is a long-term solution. There is built in connections that can break the isolation problem. But not everyone is in the position to move.
And social Isolation is a major problem.
Fortunately, we are living in a world where technology can assist us. There are many online classes and zoom meetings and many concerts that though not in person, still contribute to our connecting with others.
On a more one on one basis—we can meet with friends to eat meals together each in your own home, meet with friends to watch movies together each in your own home, meet with friends to play games together each in your own home.
What else?
In this meeting we will be talking about both the challenge of loneliness as well as different ways to deal with this.
Come join us on October 8th from 5-6:30 PST
