What we're about

This group’s principle aim is to provide a friendly social network for LGBTQ+ Londoners who live and work in and around East London. However, membership is also open to those who live elsewhere in London or are new to the city as well as our good friends and neighbours from Europe. The majority of meetings will be arranged in and around East London, namely Hackney and the North East London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Havering & Barking & Dagenham and the City of London. Other Meetups may be arranged further afield, but unlike other groups, will take account of travel connections and disruptions on the East side of London. Meet ups will include pub meets (at gay & straight venues), meals, exhibition visits, cinema and theatre meets. As well as other activities, including walks and visiting places of interest. Occasionally we might tag along with another Meetup Group. Where possible we will arrange meets that take account different budgets too. Members are welcome to make suggestions for Meetups, or host their one. They should contact one of the Groups organisers.

Please note that our meet up notice board does not exist to provide free advertising for your business or free publicity for your event, it is purely social. Members found posting adverts here for their own businesses without any permission from the organisers will be automatically deleted.

Rules: All we ask is that you treat all group members respectfully, and if you are unable to attend a Meetup you have signed yourself up for, you change your RSVP asap, it only takes a second and saves the organisers waiting for people who are not coming. There is also a small £1 fee for the majority of events to help cover the cost of using the meet up platform.

Howard's Second Zoom Quiz

Online event

Howard has very kindly agreed to host another Zoom quiz. The plan is that the questions won't need specialist knowledge - rather the intention is for them to stimulate a conversation. As to how we'll do it, Howard will host as our Quiz Master. We will start in the main Zoom room to say hello and then we will all be allocated to small teams by random generator and have our own team rooms. Then at the end we'll all gather back together. Any questions or issues please just post under the event here and we will do our best to answer it. Your question is almost certainly one that someone else has got, or hasn't thought of yet. How to "Zoom" To download Zoom and open up an account you need to visit: www.zoom.us/download For laptops, tablets and desktops, just download from the first button, Zoom client for meetings. If you access the website from a mobile phone it will direct you to the Apple and Google app stores. We think it's best done via the laptop/tablet/desktop route because of screen size. We will post the link with passwords to the online event closer to the date. Basically, once you've logged on to that, and put in the password, you'll be taken directly to our own Zoom room. Three meetings have been set up as Zoom now invariably times out after 40 minutes. We will try and end the first and start the second one early so there is only a slight break. Then everyone has to dial in again with a ID number and password for meetings 2 and 3. We may be lucky with the time allowance and not need the third meeting. The IDs are below - the password for each is quiz. First meeting ID[masked] Second meeting ID[masked] Third meeting ID[masked]

Socially distanced Olympic Park Walk

Tesco Superstore

This 5km walk takes us through the strange post-industrial landscape around the Olympic Park in Stratford. It is a place simultaneously being destroyed and brought into being. It is not picturesque, but it is fascinating. We will start at Tescos Superstore at 11.30am (near Bromley by Bow Tube). Not sure if the toilets here are open again as yet, but they very well maybe by August. The walk takes us past "3 Mills" along the Three Mills Wall River, then at City Mill Lock we'll head along the Bow Back River to the "View Tube". We can have lunch here and a toilet is available. However, if it's open by then, we should go a little further on to The Ethical Bean Company at Fish Island - lunches here have proved excellent in the past. From Fish Island we cross the River Lea at the Old Ford Lock and skirt along the edge of the Olympic Park until we reach the Hertford Union Canal. We then head east towards the Olympic Park ending up at the Velodrome. It's quite possible that, by then, the cafe at the Velodrome will be open again and we can have a cake and a cup of tea. The last leg of the walk takes us through the reclaimed land of the Velo Park and we end up at Stratford International. If it's possible by then, we can head into Westfield where, back in normal times, there was no shortage of bars and other places to eat and drink. The walking route is paved and, as described, there are a number of opportunities on the walk for comfort breaks. That said, it is challenging in places, steep flights of steps and such like - it is "post-industrial". We don't charge a fee for this event but we do offer a voluntary £1 raffle ticket to raise funds towards our membership of the Meet-up site.
