About us

How to make new friends in this urban jungle? Simple. We are Jakarta Friends. Everyone is welcome to join the community.

We are the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta... and we invite you to join us!

Jakarta Friends is the community to meet new people while doing unique activities in Jakarta. We eat and drink together, play board games, talk business, socialize, have potlucks, do language exchanges, explore the city by walking and culinary tours, and much more!

Together with the group Jakarta Writers (which mostly focus on storytelling) we are all about authentic connections in an uncomplicated and informal setting.

Together, we are creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. This community is a convergence of people and cultures.

Over the past 3,5 years, with Jakarta Friends & Jakarta Writers we have had over 250 events with about 2,000 attendees! Everyone should always feel welcome to join disregarding from their ethnicity, nationality, religion, creed, age, language skills, gender identification, sexual orientation, background, ability, income, social status, or any other arbitrary trait.

We have a yearly membership fee to join our events. This is explained in detail in every event description. The membership fee is not expensive and gives access to all events, while guaranteeing that hosting events remains sustainable for the organisers. There's much more value to members in a yearly fee than in an event fee.

We guarantee to keep organising plenty of events and the fee is refundable if the group closes down or if there are no events for more than three months. You can attend the first event for a sneak peek price!

  • marketing promotions without checking with the admin first (including aggressive marketing strategies, pet trading, self-centered offers, non-relevant posts)
  • negativity and blaming (including spreading false information, not helping each other, criticizing without offering a honest feedback or alternative solutions)
  • harrassement, discrimination, intolerance, disrespectful behaviour
  • it's important that people respect RSVP at event, and are respectful of everyone's time and efforts in organising events
  • anyone who feels unsafe or unwelcome at an event is encouraged to report this to the organisers or to the Meetup help center

    Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle. Come as you are... It’s the best version of yourself.

    ABOUT THE EVENT

    Calling out to all board gamers to play together! The idea is very simple: We meet, and we play board games! All levels of experience playing board games are welcome. Newcomers are very welcome.

    This event will be at ON ROOF coffee and resto, Bendungan Hilir - Central Jakarta. Just pay for your own food and drink. We will ask for a split bill! The host will bring various games which are easy to learn on the spot, including Monopoly, Ludo, Halma, Hangman, UNO and more! Feel free to bring your own games, if you want to! No extensive experience as a board gamer needed!

    The event is set to finish at 7.00 PM but might extend longer if people want to stay! (Feel free to have dinner at this place)

    ON ROOF coffee and resto is a warm, modern rooftop café with a cozy, slightly rustic feel. A casual hangout with an open rooftop city-facing side.

    HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE EVENT?

    To register, just click “Attend”! There are a few simple rules

    • We kindly ask attendees who cannot manage to join to update their RSVP at least 24 h before the event as a courtesy to other attendees and event organisers.
    • Come and go as you want for this event. The earlier you come, the more time you can have to enjoy the event.
    • People on the waitlist cannot attend and will receive a spot automatically if someone cancels. Also, people on the waitlist need to update their RSVP if they cannot come!
    • 3X no-show at Jakarta Friends events without updating RSVP = removal from the group
    • Cancelling within 2h of the event is unfriendly to the organiser, fellow attendees, and venue, and -- unless cases of force majeure -- still counts as a no-show.
    • No +1 allowed to this event.

    WE HAVE A MEMBERSHIP FEE. HOW DOES IT WORK?

    Our community has a membership fee that makes sure we can keep organising plenty of events as we did over the past 4 years.

    There's the option to pay a monthly membership fee through the app only (2 USD/month or about 33k IDR/month).

    Membership can be paid as a yearly membership of 340k IDR valid for 365 days after payment. Pay online ahead of the event to get 10% off! Membership gives access to all events plus exclusive perks**(*)** available only to paying members.

    As a first-timer, you have several options:

    • Option A: Join with a promo discount for first-timers for 250k IDR/year. Get 10% off if you pay online ahead of the event!
    • Option B: Not sure if you want to join for a year? Join with a 50k IDR sneak peek option & pay the remaining 290k IDR at the next event.
    • Option C: Bundle offer to join both Jakarta Friends and Jakarta Writers for 390k IDR instead of 680k IDR. First-timers only.

    All three options can be redeemed with an additional 10% discount when paid online ahead of an event.

    In the past 3,5 years, we have organised ~2-3 events per week (browse past events of JakFri here and of JakWri here). That is, with your membership you can attend up to 5-10 events/month!

    **(*)**This is a non-exhaustive list of special events we have had for paying members only. A Give Away Birthday Celebrations with a lucky draw, a Free pasta cooking (and eating 😉) workshop, or a museum visit with free guided tours.

    We guarantee to keep organizing plenty of events. You will receive a full refund if the group closes down, or if there’s no event happening in three months.

    Jakarta is referred to as a melting pot due to its status as a "home" for numerous ethnic groups and cultures from across Indonesia. Indonesia is abundant in local artistry and artists. Therefore, let's discover them together.

    Join us for a Women-Only MeetUp at Gallery Zen1 as we explore Fluid Grounds, an art exhibition curated by Dr. Anna Sungkar. Come enjoy the artworks, see them through the perspective of a female curator, and meet other women in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

    Your host for this event will be Gina, a seasoned local with a lot of knowledge about the city and eager to welcome new friends to our community.

    • This event is for WOMEN ONLY. We want to connect with each other and share our various experiences as modern women living in big cities.
    • We kindly ask attendees who cannot manage to join to update their RSVP at least 24 h before the event as a courtesy to other attendees and event organisers.
    • Be on time! We want to watch the show together. Latecomers cannot be accommodated and need to find everyone.
    • People on the waitlist cannot attend and are encouraged to check a few hours before the event if they got a spot.
    • Repeated no-show (3X) without updating RSVP will be removed from the group.
    • Cancellations a few hours before the event are unfriendly for other attendees, the organiser, and the venue, and should be avoided. They still count as a no-show.
