What we're about

You don't need your own dog but you probably need to like them! We are a people and dog-friendly group, typically taking a 2-3 hour walk with 25-30 people (and 25-30 dogs!) every other weekend in Gloucestershire or nearby. We also have evening walks in the summer, activities like canoeing and weekends away.

Gloucestershire Walking with Dogs is run as a voluntary, amateur social group (your Meetup membership terms (https://www.meetup.com/terms/) include a release of liability for group organisers). Think of it as joining a group of friends for a walk, where you are responsible for the safety and actions of yourself and your dogs.

Like any responsible walker, we expect everyone to close gates, put dogs on leads around livestock, and take other reasonable steps to stay safe and be courteous to landowners and other users of the areas we visit.

We ask for 50p on walks towards the Meetup subscription fee, with any remaining money kept in a kitty for other group activities (organisers do not receive any income or reimbursement of costs). If paid activities are organised, these are charged at the cost of the third party without markup.

Please get in touch with any questions via the site or call Ben on 07968 211023.

Camping near Stroud

Thistledown Campsite

Camping is back at last! We'll be at Thistledown Farm in Nympsfield near Stroud. https://thistledown.org.uk/ Per night it’s £12 a pitch plus £8 per adult and £2 per dog. I've booked 5 pitches for me, Jan & Carlo, Toni, Val and Claire in the 3rd pasture for Friday and Saturday nights. Please book your pitch directly and mention my name so they can try to put us together. There’s an on-site cafe and shop plus I expect we’ll have at least one barbecue. I’ll organise walks for Saturday and Sunday, probably including Woodchester Park as it’s nearby. Obligatory Covid stuff... :) - Stay at least 2m apart, especially at gates and on narrow paths - Carry hand sanitiser and face covering just in case - Obviously don't come if you have any Covid-like symptoms - Don't share food/drink, walking sticks, etc - Avoid touching gates etc directly We’re a voluntary social group, contact Ben with any questions on[masked]

Gower weekend!

Location visible to members

** MOVED TO JULY 2021 ** With the current restrictions I've moved this camping weekend to next year, when we'll hopefully all be back to normal and looking back on the madness! If you've already made your booking, the campsite will give you a credit for any future booking (you should have received an email from them - if not get in touch via www.threecliffsbay.com). I have booked 9th-12th July 2021. Make sure you also choose TENT NON ELECTRIC, and in the notes field mention the dog group, Ben Jeffery and my booking ref 63743. If you can't make next year, I would suggest waiting until they cancel the booking this year as they would presumably have to offer a refund. If you have any trouble with this, please let me know as I or someone else could buy your credit to use for next year's final balance or campsite/shop extras when we get there. ************* There are also options for electric and campervan pitches, glamping and holiday cottages (not dog friendly), or other accommodation in the area if you want to meet the rest of us in the day. Friday check in from 12pm (I’ll try to get there for mid-afternoon). I’ll arrange a walk and pub lunch Saturday, then a shorter walk on the Sunday (11am check out but they may allow us to leave tents up longer, or at least leave the cars there). Barbecues in the evening! I'm guessing the Swansea Air Show will be the same weekend so there may be traffic and road closures. This is a stunning location with a beautiful dog-friendly beach a few minutes walk away, and lots of local walk and pub options. The campsite is very well equipped with individual bathrooms and a shop including fresh coffee and pretty much anything else you want to buy, but may be cheaper to stop at a supermarket on the way for barbecue food etc. The site has a strict policy of dogs on leads at all times which we need to follow, although there is a walking area nearby where you can let them off, and of course the beach! 10pm noise cut off.
